Andres was professional and timely. I have worked with many contractors and in my opinion Andres went over and above to make sure that the job was done to my satisfaction. This job was at my office and I have asked him to provide a quote for some work that I need done at my house. I would definitely recommend Andres.

As fairly new homeowners, during the first big rain of the season we found ourselves with a leak in our daughter's bedroom and lots of worries. I quickly requested some quotes from local contractors and was immediately contacted by Stephen. He was quick to schedule a day to come and evaluate repairs and get back out to get repairs done. Our drywall had to be replaced and we also found ourselves with another leak in the kitchen. His follow up was outstanding and we couldn't be happier with the service we received from Stephen, Jerry and their drywall contact. The repairs were completed in a timely manner and very professionally. Thank you again Box Construction!!!

Chris called to confirm our appointment the day before, and she showed up right on time. He got right to work on replacing a defective valve, relocated a sprinkler head, and repaired irrigation controller wiring. This guy really worked hard while he was here. One of the most pleasant contractors I have ever hired, he was professional, and he cleaned everything up when he was finished. I highly recommend Chris and the services he provides. Miss Landscape was hired to provide a landscape renewal for a large industrial building in Santa Fe Springs. We are completely satisfied with the work she provided. She was on the job site at the time specified, worked through timing issues with other contractors and cleaned the site thoroughly when she was finished. She worked with us to adjust plants when we had a budget problem. We will use her again and recommend her to other potential clients. Cesar was a great person, very professional. We needed our living room floor flatten to meet the other flooring contractor's requirements. The first visit the concrete vacuum did not work and not all areas were flatted but I explained what the other contractor was concern with so Cesar came out the next to work on the areas of concern, so he stood by the quality of his work with no extra charge. I like companies that will do this because not all contracts see eye to eye. Without the vacuum issue, he would have received 5 stars.

Joe was considerate and not pushy. One of the very few contractors to return a call for a job estimate. He was punctual to the job site and when he had questions he never hesitated to ask resulting in a well-constructed fence.

Luis from Brandon's tree service arrived at my house the very same day I posted this job. He showed up on time and provided a fair quote and gave me a copy of his insurance without even asking. After i selected this contractor, he gave me a start date and time and showed up exactly as planned. His employee was very skilled and professional. I have a 30-40 ft Ficus that needed to be trimmed and shaped and he did just an outstanding job. I've had this done before by another contractor who stripped almost every leaf off the tree and had me very worried it wouldn't survive. But Brandon's tree service left it looking neatly trimmed, thinned, shaped and enough leaves so it doesn't look bald.

I would not hesitate to recommend HCC. Such an easy and seamless transaction and process from the very beginning . Keli's response time is so quick - which was very refreshing after chasing around a couple contractors just to get a bid on our project. Thank you for all your help and hard work Keli - and thank you for making our project run so well.

Jordan as a person was very nice. His inital follow up was prompt and he spoke very highly of his attention to detail. As a first time homeowner, I know little about construction and heavily rely on the expert knowledge of others to assist with our remodel. We hired Jordan after meeting three other contractors based solely on our interaction with him. When we originally had Jordan out to our house it was for a flooring quote only. Jordan explained he also preformed landscaping work on the side so we added that to our list. Jordan did an amazing job installing the floors! The entire dynamic of the house changed because of the floors. I was very disappointed in a few other areas which is the reason for 4 stars. We do not currently live in the house although we do have a few items in place for weekend visits. Towards the end of the job Jordan said that they were mostly finished so I had gone to check out the progress. The tile work in both bathrooms is crooked. The master bath is very noticeable. In addition, my bedding was covered in dust and they had smeared grout into the carpet in my bedroom. There was also sloppy grouting and caulking done in several areas of my home. To add insult to injury his crew decided it was ok to help themselves to my kids popcicles - this actually upset me just asuch as the tile floor. Giving credit where it is due: Jordan and Tim did have my carpets cleaned, my bedding dry cleaned and I was given the option to have them rip up the bathroom floor or receive a discount from my final bill. Jordan did offer to replace the missing popcicles as well although that never did happen. The landscape looks nice as well but we asked to keep the remaining turf and that also didn't happen. I asked jordan about it and he said what was salvageable was in our shed - it wasnt. Again, I was very happy with the floors but the other items make it hard to say if I would rehire for additional projects. Nice guy but I didn't feel like our home was cared for in the way he said it would be. If you do decide to hire Jordan my recommendations would be: 1. Get a detailed breakdown of the work 2. Notate about the use of your personal items (they completely filled up both our garbage cans) 3. Inspect. Inspect. Inspect. Check every corner.

We wanted to get crown molding installed along with a trayed ceiling. Although none of the contractors knew exactly what we wanted, Frank worked with us to turn the image in our mind into reality. He got the job because, as a general contractor, he has the skill, manpower and equipment available to do multiple jobs like electrical work and cabinet work (our job also involved drywall and painting work). So, although the project started as a simple crown molding job, we got a lot of other things taken care of. Franks and his crew was very friendly and professional. They were very responsive to our requests and worked to make us happy. For example, we wanted to have Plexiglas installed in a cabinet door. After he did this (in his shop) he didn't think that we would like the result, so he installed a dark glass panel instead. We were very pleased with the result. In fact, we were so pleased that we are hiring them again for another job. I highly recommend Ruiz Construction Co.

Form and Focus completed a full landscaping job for us this past spring. Our backyard began with all dirt, and by the end, we had attractive hardscape, redwood fences, artificial turf, a raised cement deck with seat wall, landscape lighting, a gas firepit, drip sprinklers, and complementary planter beds to accent the perimeters. From the design phase through completion, Jacob and his team were very professional, and especially responsive to our design change requests throughout. We would highly recommend Form and Focus for any of your landscaping projects.

All of the above and more. Such a wonderful Company and crew! My apologies to Olivas for this long overdue review. I had some Eldorado Brick Veneer installed on an interior and exterior wall by Olivas Masonry back in February 2018. My husband was too busy to do the work and agreed to hire it out. I contacted two contractors recommended by RCP in Temecula. One was a no show and the other contractor priced the project way over anything reasonable or affordable. I then decided to try out Thumback and submitted an email through them and immediately received a call from Gina Olivas. Gina come by the house to meet with me to discuss the project, took measurements, and provided a quote within a few days. I really enjoyed meeting with Gina and liked her professionalism and honesty. The quote was very reasonable and affordable, so I made a decision to have Olivas do the project. It was by far the best decision ever! They became like family and I actually missed them after the job was done. I've had several projects hired out and I've never been so happy and satisfied as I have with this project. This crew rocks! They are very professional, always on-time, very courteous, accommodating and so cooperative. My husband and I are very picky and we are so pleased with how professional and amazing the walls look. I highly recommend Olivas for any of your stone work. You won't regret it. Thanks again Olivas and should I have additional stone work I will definitely contact you.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
