I went in for my hair and makeup trial for my wedding, ended up booking them for my wedding day because they where fun and professional. I called them later in the week to let them know what i liked and what didn't work. Amanda, the hair stylis was very nice when I told her that my hair didn't last so she offered to book another appointment at no extra charge so we could figure out something that works. On makeup, Jacylnda suggested another trial where i could have more time to spend so we could try more than one thing. And was nice to share the name of products I loved that she used on me. I was totally new to the trial thing and was used to just going in, telling the artist my dress color and than they'd do their magic, so that's exactly what I thought it was supposed to be,now I know I should go in with a bunch of ideas and try them all if possible. I nocked off one star just because I plan to update my review after my wedding. I would definitely recomend these girls

Sara dyed my hair ómbre style a few years ago. I got compliments on my hair up until I had the last few inches of light hair trimmed off. When you ask for a trim, she actually understands the concept. Rest assured the length of your hair will never be compromised. I trust Sara's taste and talent so much, she has been commissioned for my hair and make up on my upcoming wedding.

Steph was amazing from start to finish! She showed up on the day of my wedding and got right to work and she did a great job on mine and my bridesmaid's hair and makeup! She's really nice and professional as well and we looked great for the the pictures. She even did some last minute changes for me which we didn't have done at the trial which was excellent because I liked the way my hair turned out for my actual wedding! There is nothing I would change and I will definitely hire her for my next event if needed! Thanks Steph!

Phoebe was excellent! She arrived early for my wedding day hair styling, she quickly assessed my hair and got working. My hair was absolutely gorgeous! My husband just loved my hair and the curls lasted all day into the next day. I would definitely use her for any event for my hair and recommend her to everyone! Thank you!

I was super happy how the makeup and hair turned out on my wedding day! She tailored it to fit our comfort level since I like a simpler makeup style. Months leading up to the wedding day she would ask for possible hair styles my bridesmaids would like and gave examples of what she could do. Her organization and attention to detail was a relief among all the wedding planning stress. Kim and crew were very professional and easy to talk to when asking for slight changes on either hair or makeup on the day of. My MIL didn't want heat applied to her hair but she wanted a curly do, and Kim and crew were able to complete a beautiful look with the given limitations of no curling iron. It turned out beautiful and made my MIL excited with her finished look. With Kim's great personality and sense of humor, my bridesmaids and I were at ease on the big day while had a blast getting ready. Kim will definitely be my go-to make up artist and hair stylist for future photo shoots! Thank you for the beautiful makeup and hair style for my big day!!

When I first came in, I felt right at home! I warned her that my hair might be a process but she handled it like no problem! It came out so much better than I expected! I was comfortable, and offered water when I came in! Will be coming back, no questions asked.

Amazing work on my hair and makeup. I’m EXTREMELY picky And very particular about how other people do my hair and make up. Often times I don’t like people to do it for me and I like to just do it myself but I trust Meztli to do it just the way I ask. Give her a shot you won’t be disappointed!

I had my hair cut and had balayage highlights done by Dee, and I LOVE my results. I was looking for a subtle change but wanted something natural, and Dee simply nailed it. Another thing that impressed me and showed Dee’s knowledge was how she chose to dry my wavy/curly hair before cutting it to ensure she didn’t cut off more than I wanted. I appreciate her talent and the time she took to make sure I was comfortable and received the look I was going for.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

    What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

    What is a seamless extension?

A seamless hair extension is a type of clip-on hair extension. The extension hair is called the weft. Near the top of the weft, a metal clip mounted to the weft on a silicone base is used to attach the extension to your natural hair. In a traditional clip-on extension, the base that attaches the metal clip to the weft is fabric.

People may prefer seamless extensions due to their lower profile; the silicone can be up to 50 percent thinner than the fabric, making the extension appear more natural — and, therefore, seamless. Seamless extensions usually can be washed (although you shouldn’t keep them submerged for more than 20 seconds) and heat-styled on lower heat settings. You can gently brush seamless hair extensions as well as have them dyed a darker color by a trained professional.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

How much do hair extensions cost?

Hair extensions are synthetic or real human hair integrations that add volume and length to your hair. Hairstylists are trained in different techniques to attach extensions to your hair. The cost of extensions can vary greatly depending on the technique used to apply the hair, as well as the type of hair you select. Synthetic hair is typically the least expensive, human hair is next on the pricing scale, remy hair is next, and what is called “virgin” human hair is generally the most sought-after and most expensive. Remy hair signifies that all the cuticles are intact and running in the same direction, making for smoother hair extensions in the long term. Hair is deemed virgin when all the hair is from one donor and has never undergone any chemical processing. Hair prices will vary from company to company; here are some examples of hair from online retailers.

    • Virgin strands (25 strands weighing approximately 1 gram each) for hot fusion application: $44 per bundle.
    • Virgin hair weave (approximately 4 ounces per package): $149 each.

Here are some sample application costs from hairstylists.

    • Full sew-in: $175-$200 or more.
    • Partial sew-in: $125 or more.
    • Micro-link weft extensions: $300 or more.
    • Full-bonded extensions: $75 or more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
