Introduction

What I have to offer my students comes from my broad range of experiences in teaching students of all ages from a wide range of backgrounds. My own experiences as a musician include performing, songwriting, and working in theater and film. My favorite part about teaching is seeing the "light go on" with my students, igniting their passion for music, and seeing them come away with a sense of accomplishment from what they've achieved.

As an almost-retired woman, I was apprehensive about lessons, but Dana helped me overcome my fears, led me to pieces that I could manage and thereby helped me to a sense of accomplishment. I will never play Carnegie Hall, but he has helped me progress to the point where I feel confident enough to play in front of friends. I have seen him be very calm and encouraging with much younger pupils and enjoy the semi-annual concerts by these children and young adults.

I have been taking piano lessons from Dana for the last 6 years. Dana is an effective and diligent teacher with unlimited patience. I am an older student and holding a busy job. My lessons were scheduled after work. He understood my situation and always found a way of transiting my working mood into learning mood. He also understood the different ways people lean. My best practices were at home, he encouraged me to show him my practice recordings and to play the music I like. He is honest, motivating, easily to communicate, and always on time. He has inspired me to play better in music not just to know the pieces.

My son has been working with Dana for over six years, beginning piano lessons when he was five years old. Dana is the perfect match for my son, and has taught him to be precise and accurate in playing, and also provided him numerous opportunities to perform (he typically conducts recitals twice a year). Dana has also been flexible in scheduling, which has been helpful as my son is involved in other activities. It has been wonderful to see the progression over time, and my son has stuck with the instrument, which also speaks well to his trust and connection to Dana as his instructor.

Two words come to mind when I think about Dana as a music instructor: Patience & Confidence. My twin sons have taken piano lessons from Dana for the past 4 years. They had no previous training before starting with Dana at the age of 14. Over the years, Dana has shown incredible patience with each of them, while firmly encouraging their steady development in music. As a result, each of my sons have increased their confidence about themselves and their musical abilities. They have even started to compose their own songs!! Thank you Dana, for helping to bring out the music in us!

Dana is the best piano teacher I have had! I had 2 teachers as a youngster, then 2 teachers as a college student, and these latter experiences felt very "ho-hum." I would go back to my apartment and feel lukewarm about practicing. As an adult, I've had 2 more piano teachers -- the first bored me for five months with scales and drills and did not let me play any songs, and then I found Dana. He has allowed me to pick the music I enjoy and keeps urging me on to improve, giving me precise tips about fingering, dynamics, and the emotional impact of each piece.
