Houman did a wonderful job painting all of our bathroom cabinets and our hallway linen cabinets. He went out of his way to search for the right fitting hinges for our very old cabinets. He was also able to get the job done with very short notice. I will definitely call on him again for other home repair and project work.

He was a great help in fixing my apartment. I was about to be evicted and he came in and fixed my town house in a day. The man is reliable and a hard worker. He fixed the dents in the walls, painted, removed the carpets and brought his friend to install a new one, he also fixed the lightings and a minor pluming issue. I recommended him to a friend and he is currently working on a project in my friend's apartment.

LGO got right back to me the same morning I inquired about their services. We picked a date, time and I got a rate for hanging floating book shelves in my bedroom and living room. River, the contractor showed up on time, had the proper tools and equipment and was in and out in less than 45 minutes. Great guy, knew what he was doing and cleaned up after himself too! Will definitely hire them again when I need to.

Eric was personable and efficient. He hung up two curtain rods, a large clock, and chalkboard in my apartment. Not only the best price in town but also an all around great guy. If I ever need a handyman again he will be my first call.

OMG super impressed with the work Mark has done. I had professional movers who couldn't do the job of reassembling my furniture. Called Panda to complete the task and it was done to perfection. One man did the work that 3 men couldn't. I definitely will continue to use Panda for my projects around the house. One satisfied customer.

Highly Recommended! We will definitely be using James and his team again. They were so friendly, very punctual, honest guys and did a phenomenal job. Our cinderblock wall was once covered by Ivy and with a new fence installation, it was exposed and bare... very uneasy on the eyes. James and his team painted it so beautifully as well as pressure washed and cleaned the area thoroughly. We will definitely be using them for any future exterior painting and pressure washing needed in the future. Thanks again!

Zee was actually painting the home across the street, and we asked him for an estimate. He gave us a fair price and a time estimate to complete the job. His work was meticulous and beautiful. We have crown molding throughout our home, he painted the ceilings, wall moldings and all walls. When the color we selected didn't turn out the way we wanted, he came back and repainted a couple of rooms. Works hard to please the customer and guarantees his work. He did a fantastic job. I would highly recommend him.

I contacted Jerry about painting two bathrooms for me. They needed to be primered and painted relatively quickly. He was immediately responsive and friendly and worked with me to get the appointment set and offer a fair price. When he arrived, he worked efficiently and quickly and did a fantastic job. Jerry is a professional and also a kind human being. I would heartily recommend him for any project.

M.&R. did a great job painting the living room, dining room and hallway in one of the units in my triplex. They patched multiple holes in the walls left by tenants prior to painting and left the walls looking smooth and sharp. I’m very satisfied with the service and would hire them again for future projects.

Patrick installed a 65" flat tv in my apartment and I can't be more pleased with the work. There was some challenges due to my mount not being wife enough but Patrick improvised and made it work. Great price and quality. I would definitely use him again.

Look did a great job in painting our ceilings. He was meticulous in his approach to the details, and the finished job was perfect. We thought that it would be a 2-day job but he did it in the space of 9am-6pm. He was methodical in how he painted each room, and then went back to do a 2nd coat in a previously-painted room. Super nice guy, and very respectful to our home. I don't think he spilled even a drop of paint... anywhere. I am happy to recommend him. David C.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
