FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to take it on a case by case basis since people do not share the same expectation. One person may just want to relax and therefore may not feel the need to go through an extensive physical history. For someone looking for specific results I generally ask questions and do a lot of listening. The goal is to find out what initially caused the problem, decide if massage is going to be helpful and in what manner, and decide what approach to take.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started my education in massage therapy in 1998 in Kalamazoo MI. After completing an intro course I was hooked and when I moved to San Diego shortly thereafter I immediately started taking courses at IPSB. I started working with friends and acquaintances, then worked part time for a chiropractor until leaving San Diego. At the end of 2005 I moved to Chicago to be closer to family and in order to get licensed I needed a few more hours. My previous credits would not transfer to any schools there so I had to start over. I enrolled at the Soma Institute and completed its clinical massage program, obtained national certification and the Illinois Massage Therapy License. In addition to this I have taken a few Thai massage classes. While living in Denver I completed the first 2 levels of Rossiter Stretching, which grew out of Rolfing Structural Integration.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I believe I have worked with a diverse group of people over the 20 years that I have been practicing massage. Having lived and worked in some of the largest cities in America has introduced me to a great array of ethnic backgrounds, body types, physical conditions, etc. I have worked in day spas, chiropractors offices, corporate offices, Whole Foods, and privately.
