Matthew Lee says, "I'm really excited and pleased to leave a positive review for this company. We live in a historical home over 100 years old that has had many critical foundational issues for quite some time. The foundation was so bad that it affected the structure and interior flooring. It took about month of searching for the right company for the job. I went with Golden Retrofit for several reasons. First, while I was researching and comparing companies, I saw that this organization had zero negative feedback across four different review websites. None. Which I found it pretty impressive (and after the job, I can see why.)Second, customer service was impeccable. When Tom Levi came to my house to survey the job, he was on time, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, very detailed with identifying the issues under the property. He explained what needed to be done, and provided a presentation of previous projects his company successfully completed. Tom was very prompt in providing a reasonable quote for the job and everything that it entailed. He would follow up periodically and was always available to answer any questions. He was also easy to reach throughout the whole process.Third, the crew was on point. They did the job with no incidents or hiccups. They did a fantastic job from start to finish which took about a month. The process was seamless through all phases of the job and they passed every inspection along the way. Always respected the property, and made sure everything was packed up and secured at the end of the work day. What made this job really impressive was the final phase. I thought after they poured the concrete, they were done. Nope, they replaced all the wood, the siding, waterproofing, added new ventilation, crawl space entrance, stuccoed, and painted everything to make everything look like it was new. The cleanup was impeccable, and the crew did work I was not expecting at all. They built new steps for the side sliding door and added fresh mulch in the garden. That's love right there! They definitely went out of their way and place looks great. Can't thank these guys enough. I trust and highly recommend Golden Retrofit based on my research, experience, and their reputation. Thanks again!"See more

Sunken or uneven slabs may signal voids, drainage issues, or shifting support under the concrete. In Los Angeles, dry stretches followed by wetter periods may be able to change soil support, and a pro can often pinpoint the cause before trip hazards spread.

jean hayes says, "Falkon Construction, Inc. was an excellent choice for my driveway repair. They showed up on time, they promised a 3 day job, which was completed in 3 days. It involved the removal of the existing driveway and expanding it 3 feet. When completed they taped off the area to prevent people walking by from damaging the area. The breaking up of the existing concrete was done so quickly, in about a half hour, and the concrete blocks were removed immediately. Everything was timed perfectly, with trucks arriving to carry away the concrete blocks, delivery of the small concrete bits, rebar delivered, and the concrete mixing truck arrived right on schedule. The team that leveled the concrete, spent all morning releveling, smoothing, treating it for the proper moisture content, and resmoothing it, created a beautiful finished job. The contractor was there throughout the entire job. Best job ever and at a very reasonable price."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Because unsealed concrete is porous, it readily absorbs liquids, leading to unsightly stains and freeze-and-thaw cycle damage. For this reason, it’s important to seal concrete that will see spills or outdoor weather.

The best option for garage floors and other high-traffic areas is epoxy, which forms a hard and extremely durable surface on top of concrete. Epoxy, acrylic, and polishes are often used on indoor floors, while acrylic-resin sealers and reactive penetrating sealers are used on outdoor surfaces to repel water and salt. Locate a concrete contractor in your area to help find the best solution.

A concrete paint cover is typically opaque and covers up the color of the concrete. This means it provides significant protection to the concrete below. However, if it is improperly applied or subjected to heavy traffic, a painted concrete floor is likely to chip and peel.

Epoxy and staining are two types of concrete floor sealer. Epoxy is a more durable but often more expensive option than a concrete stain. Epoxy forms a protective layer, while concrete stain is more decorative and requires more maintenance. Because epoxy can be more expensive than concrete stain, it is best used in high-traffic areas or in applications where low maintenance is desired.

A concrete stain, on the other hand, is quick to apply and can show off the textures of the concrete, but it does not provide a high degree of protection for the concrete against spills, salt, water and other contaminants. Staining concrete generally requires a dust mop, a pH-neutral cleaner and water to clean, while epoxy can cause resin buildup that necessitates the use of special detergents.

Find a concrete contractor near you for help selecting the right floor concrete sealer.

Concrete contractors can build foundations, structures, driveways, concrete storm drains, raise or level concrete patios and much more. They can handle every step of the process, starting with framing the mold that the concrete is poured into. They then cut, assemble and tie together the rebar, giving the concrete its tensile strength. Finally, they pour the concrete in, mixing and conditioning it to ensure it cures properly. They will also take steps to ensure that no air pockets are trapped within it.

If you have a project that requires the help of a concrete contractor, reach out to one today to get a price estimate.

The best finish for concrete floors depends on your personal taste. An acid stain is a bold, varied look with lots of texture and the potential for earthy tones and a natural stone appearance. A water-based stain might not last as long as an acid stain, but it gives you the choice of many different colors. Epoxy is great for high-traffic areas, kitchens, bathrooms, basements and garages. It provides a glossy, damage-resistant, non-slip coating on your concrete floors. To find out which finish is the best for your concrete floors, contact a concrete contractor near you.

Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
