FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Many people do not even realize how far the face painting industry has come and how much it has evolved in terms of techniques and talent. Although I am a relative new comer to Face Painting, I have completed more professional training than many others who have been painting for over 10 years. In August of 2010, I completed a 5 day intensive Face Paint University with award winning painter Pashur House and Gina Niemi. Additional training includes a two day workshop with Brian Wolfe as well as full day workshops with Mark Reid, Marcela Murad, Carolyn Roper, Rebecca Tonkovich and Lymari Maillot. To date I have attended four face painting conventions where I learned addition techniques and styles from many world renowned artists.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a young girl, I enjoyed various arts and crafts and have always loved colors. My previous career as a photographer helped me develop my understanding of light, shapes and contrast which are all skills that can be applied to face painting and body art. Colors make me happy. Let me share that with you :-) After having my own children I wanted to find an outlet for my creative and artistic expression which would still allow me to be there for my kids. Luckily I discovered that I was able to transfer my previous skills to a different art form that brings smiles and laughter to my customer's faces.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Cheap Face Painting is not good. Good Face Painting is not cheap. Of course anyone with paints can paint something but without the training and techniques, the result will just not be the same. More importantly, you need to make sure that whoever you hire is using professional, cosmetic grade materials that are safe and approved for use on the skin. Acrylic paint is not intended for use on the skin and can cause harm. Especially on young children with sensitive skin. Just because a paint is labeled "not toxic" does not mean that it is intended to use on the skin -- it just means that a person won't get sick if it is ingested.
