Fireplace and Chimney Cleaning or Repair

Great value

Lacey D. says, "I scheduled an inspection for a rental home I just moved into, to make sure the fireplace is safe to use. It already looked really clean from just looking at the fireplace from inside the home. After the inspection I was told I need a deep clean due to rust build up and mold in the chimney along with repairs. The deep clean was pretty pricey at $599 plus another $99 to disinfect the mold. (plus tax). It took about 45 min and there wasn’t an inspection or any work done from the roof because he couldn’t get access. Drop cloths weren’t put down, but no mess was made. Which was nice. In addition to the $752 deep clean, he informed me there are $1500 worth of repairs to be done or the rust and mold will come back. (the owner is responsible for this). I asked for a formal quote to give to the owner and was only told the price breakdown. I wasn’t given any sort of formal quote for repairs that are still needed or an invoice/receipt for the cleaning that was done. I’m not sure if I got a full inspection since he wasn’t able to access the roof. Despite this being an overwhelming experience (because of the unexpected high cost and being scared by the explanation of how unsafe it could be not to do cleaning/repairs), the Technician was friendly and informative."See more

Does a fireplace add value to a house?

A fireplace may or may not add value to your house — it depends on the prospective homeowner and the trends in your real estate market. Many people find fireplaces desirable, but you’ll need to talk to your real estate agent (or an expert) to find out if homebuyers in your area will pay more for a fireplace or if you’ll recoup the costs.
