Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hello! My name is Sam Choman and I run a music school called Silver Lake Guitar. I am a professional musician here in LA where I gig, teach, produce, write, and mix songs. I've been teaching music since 2009, which makes 11 years now! I am college educated, industry experienced, and I love helping people achieve their musical ambitions. I have a student base of all ages, from 6 to 75+, and I teach genres varying from classical and jazz, to blues, rock, folk and pop. Whether you want to just work on some cool songs, broaden your chord/scale vocabulary, or learn to read charts and understand harmony, it would be my privilege to guide you!

Guitar Lessons

Sam does a great job customizing the lessons for my needs. I also really like his flexibility and willingness to adjust lessons and giving me tips on becoming a better guitarist.

Guitar Lessons

Classes with Sam have been so worthwhile! Sam has an amazing way of breaking things down so that they are understandable, and always keeping it light and fun. I’m so happy to finally be learning how to play guitar!

Guitar Lessons

Sam is an amazing guitar instructor for beginners! I love that he does an interview prior the lesson to gather the genre of music your child is interested in and tailors their class to that information. This style of training definitely keeps my nephew engaged and excited for upcoming classes. I would definitely recommend Sam as a music instructor he’s awesome!

Guitar Lessons

My son loves Sam so much, and he would like to practice everyday because Sam makes him love to play. My son asked me to give Sam 5 stars. He is really a great guitar teacher. Also Sam teaches my younger son piano.

Sam is an awesome teacher. Not only did my daughter love learning guitar from him, but he also taught me to seriously improve my guitar and songwriting skills. We then started working on music production and I now writing and recording music that I am truly proud of, thanks to Sam. I don’t think there is a better guitar/music teacher out there. He can really do it all!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I am flexible with budgets and family packages!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always like to start with a chat about the students goals, musical experience and interests. It's really helpful to have a strong understanding of this right from the start so we can lay down the appropriate direction. I will then work out an individualized plan for each student and find the necessary musical literature or songs to get us going. Lastly.. play some songs together!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have studied music formally since the age of 8, on the classical guitar, clarinet, and saxophone. I competed in international and regional competitions for Jazz and Classical music through high school, and went on to receive a full ride in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon in 2012. I then transferred to the University of Washington, where I continued playing gigs, studying with internationally renowned musicians such as Ted Poor, and forming bands in Seattle while earning my BAS Cum Laude. My musical education has always been a strong blend of self-driven ambition and formal training, and I've had the honor to work with and be mentored by many internationally renowned musicians. I really understand the process and what it's like to study music from a teacher, having done it from so many different musicians with so many different methods for so many years. Every time I teach, I try to expand on what I always found worked from my musical education and cut out I saw to be ineffecive for myself and for my peers; it needs to be fun!
