FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Luckily, as a cosmetology instructor, I'm exposed to classes all the time! I am Aveda color certified - meaning that I have advanced education in Aveda color beyond the basic classes taught at Aveda Institutes or at their headquarters. Outside of the salon, I use Kenra color and was trained by their Creative Director in Indianapolis while I worked for them. Additionally, I have a BS in Film and a BA in French from Boston University.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always wanted to be a hairstylist, but I was discouraged from this line of work when I was younger. Instead, I went to college and majored in film and French. I moved to LA in 2001 and I worked my way up in the entertainment industry on the development side. After 10 years, I decided to pursue my interest in hairstyling and attended the Aveda Institute Los Angeles where I now teach!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I typically make house calls for color, cuts, blow dries and styling. I also do set work. But of course, on a daily basis, my "customers" are my students at the Aveda Institute Los Angeles! There, I teach "Beta" phase which is the third of the students' five phase journey. Over 15 weeks, I teach nails, hairstyling, advanced haircutting, facials, makeup, and advanced color.
