- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My prices are based on what's required to get the job done. Typically my quote has a split hourly rate that reflects a discount for more time spent on the job. My clients think my prices are fair; they keep calling with more work and referrals.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Understanding my customer's needs and priorities is the first step. Once the job is explained, we talk about how I'm going to get the job done. This is the point where I discuss options and make suggestions. When the job is complete, I walk through what was done and make any adjustments or alterations.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Handyman training or education isn't available in an academic setting. It has to be learned from hands-on experience gained by working with peers, mentors, and on-the-job. I grew up fixing things that were broken and building things I wanted. It started with building models, then fixing and repairing boats, cars, and motors. As I got older, the tools and projects got more dangerous and I started working with wood and helping with electrical and plumbing projects. Now I can frame, sheetrock, and paint a wall, add outlets and ethernet, and then install a light, ceiling fan, and dimmer.
