FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates vary with what my competitors are offering at the time, but are typically between $45 and $65 per hour. These are higher than most other tutors for a few reasons: I am a certified early Ed/Adolescent (meaning middle through high school) math teacher, I have an engineering BS from Stanford, and I have an advanced engineering degree in Management. Payments due at start of service, in as many 4 hour blocks you wish, but the cost for pay-by-hour are $10 higher-- simply, if you pay 4 at a time there is a $40 savings. Cancellation with reschedule permitted with a 24 hour notice or the session is non-refundable.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For elementary grades I prefer to spend part of the first session with a diagnostic assessment. For high school students, the best starting point is to look at recent tests and quizzes and jump right into correcting misunderstandings or misconceptions. Reteaching of supporting concepts happens naturally as I identify the root of why a new skill is giving a student trouble.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Reading journals for K-12 math and science, as well as collaborating with other educators and being involved in University level research designed to improve curricula.
