About
I'm Jon, a Functional Movement Coach and Corrective Exercise Specialist with 15+ years of experience training here in West LA! My studio is located in the Venice/Marina del Rey area.
My philosophy is; as we get older, our movement patterns become compromised through the conveniences of modern life. Long hours at the computer, texting, driving and evenings on the couch lead to structural imbalances across our body. With imbalance comes a heightened risk of injury. At Strength in Balance, I take a physical therapy based approach to personal training, correcting faulty movement patterns and helping you build a strong foundation on your journey to physical wellness.
I'm currently running a special of $750/month for up to three 30-min sessions per week. Regular rates are $85/30min and $120/55min. Feel free to reach out with questions or for a quick consult. Looking forward to training with you!

With Jon’s background in PT, training sessions are always purposeful, impactful and efficient. It’s never about a “quick fix” but instead about building a proper foundation for every movement so you feel I can feel my best not only during a workout (even if it’s challenging) but afterward as well! I appreciate his strong attention to detail - sessions always feel super intentional and thoughtful.

Jon Mackey has been my trainer at Strength in Balance for 2+ years. I can't say enough good things about Jon and the gym! Jon comes from a PT background, and so is conscious to plan my workouts not only around strength and cardio training, but also around keeping my body in alignment, addressing any aches and pains, etc. Perfect for someone of a certain age like I am! We also have meaningful discussions about diet, sleep, supplements, etc.; Jon is knowledgeable about all aspects of health and wellness. We also have a lot of laughs always a pleasure! I also enjoy the environment at Strength in Balance. Its a small training gym, typically with only 4 nice people there at a time (2 trainers + 2 clients). They have all the equipment needed to get a good workout, whatever your needs. I highly recommend Jon and Strength in Balance.

Ive been working with Jon for the past two years, and I can honestly say that he has been a game-changer for both my physical health and my overall well-being. When I first started, I was dealing with chronic back issues, and over the course of our work together, he not only helped me fix those problems but also guided me through rehabbing multiple injuries I caused through poor habits or overtraining. Thanks to his knowledge and patience, Ive learned how to recover properly and prevent further injuries. What stands out about Jon is his ability to teach foundational fitness in a way that empowers you long-term. He didnt just give me exercises to fix problems in the moment; he gave me the tools to build a solid foundation, which has not only kept me injury-free but has also made me feel more capable and confident in all areas of my life. His approach to fitness is about more than just physical strengthits about creating balance, mobility, and a mindset that supports long-term health and well-being.Beyond training, Jon has been a true mentor and life coach. Hes always been there to offer guidance when I needed it, helping me navigate personal challenges and encouraging me to push beyond my limits in ways I never thought possible. Hes the kind of person who genuinely cares about your success, both in the gym and outside of it.If you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable, caring, and committed to helping you become the best version of yourself, I highly recommend Jon. His expertise, support, and personal touch make him a one-of-a-kind trainer and mentor.

I originally started working out with Jon to relieve some work stress and clean up my unhealthy lifestyle. But over the last 7 years hes helped me: relieve chronic back pain, tone up for my wedding, stay sane during pregnancy/postpartum and discover a true love of fitness. As a woman in my late 30s, Ive tried every fitness fad under the sun, but Ive NEVER seen results the way I do after working out with Jon. We switch up the routine constantly so theres no monotony and I always feel challenged in the safest, injury-free way. (Weight-training, boxing, ab/plank challengesyou name it.) Im legitimately excited to work out with Jon every single time- every session is a privilege.Jon is also a voracious consumer of health, science, rehab and fitness knowledge (well, all knowledge really- I challenge you to find a topic he cant speak to,) which I deeply appreciate. I always feel confident that hes steering my husband and I in the right direction re: choices to improve our quality of life in and out of the gym. With each session I can feel myself getting stronger, healthier and happier and Im eternally grateful.Also- the gym has all the equipment I could ever need, great indoor/outdoor space and is really well ventilated. Its personal and a completely safe, supportive space for anyone whos nervous about getting back into a fitness routine or just prefers a private and judgement-free environment to work out in.

I've been working with Jon for the past 3 months and I'm so happy with my results! I had a sore knee when I started working with him, and he was very understanding and made sure to design a program that was safe and effective for me.As an added bonus he is also your therapist and knows far too much about my life now :-)The location of his gym is ideal on the westside with an outdoor area to enjoy the LA sunshine (when it decides to come out!).The workouts are purposeful and I enjoy learning new routines and am never bored. And Jon is a specialist in his field, so he knows exactly what he's doing. He's always pushing me to reach my full potential, but he also makes sure that I'm safe and that I'm not overdoing it.Overall, I highly recommend Jon as a personaltrainer. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive, and he's helped me to achieve my fitness goals in a safe and effective way.
