Introduction: I work one on one with my clients (not a 'headshot mill') to achieve the best possible results for their marketing purposes. I know what CDs and other industry professionals respond to and use that information to create headshots that are the most effective. Headshots are not just for actors though. Many professionals and others come to me for everything from professional profile shots to online dating site images. I guarantee your satisfaction with the results. Jonathan is an actor's photographer - he captures the moment, the essence, and the style of the actor in mid-moment. He's very easygoing, humorous, yet has the strength to direct the actor towards a capture-able energy. He never puts you in a "pose"; instead, he promotes breath and movement and action, then captures that in a photograph. He knows the actor's brain, the actor's doubts and desires, and because of that, my agent and I had a hard time deciding through all our photos which to choose from for my "main" shots (yet we knew instinctively which the outstanding ones were!). Highly recommended if you're in the Los Angeles metropolitan area! (and Jonathan, if you ever visit NYC, let's make a date). Jonathan is not only an extremely talented photographer, but also a friendly and kind person that is so easy to work with. This was my first headshot session and while I was excited, I also wasn't entirely sure of how best to prepare -- I used the checklist on his site and showed up with a few clothing options that Jonathan helped me narrow down carefully to achieve the looks that worked best for me. Personally, I didn't have many in mind, so his help was so useful in determining the characters/looks I could go for in the shots. Once we chose outfits, I had my hair and makeup done professionally which I highly recommend. Takes so much stress out of the day and is tailored perfectly to how you want to look - and if you don't know what look to go for, they'll help you figure it out! Not to mention keeping an eye on me the entire time, touching up makeup and fixing my hair for the camera too! I booked a full session which flew by, with Jonathan explaining his approach and how we were going to get the best pictures possible - if there were any problems or if I didn't understand, he'd stop and talk directly to me so I understood exactly what I should do. His patience and energy really made the session so much fun, it's so easy to relax in front of the camera which is ESSENTIAL! After each look, Jonathan would show me the images on the computer and discuss what worked well and what to try for the next look. Seeing the images as you go not only erases any anxiety about the remainder of the session, but also makes you feel excited rather than worried during the waiting time before you receive the images! (Which were sent SO quickly, the next day!) Jonathan also marks his favorite images, so when you receive them, you can see what he think worked best. While you don't have to follow what he chooses, it made it so much easier for me to narrow down my top shots! And honestly, there were a LOT of top ones to choose from, such high quality and flattering pictures. Overall, the session itself went quickly and was so relaxed. The wait time was amazingly fast, and the final images were beyond what I had expected. I cannot recommend Jonathan enough - he is fantastic at what he does and knows how to get the best characters out of you and bring out your personality which is exactly what we all want in our headshots. If you want a stress free environment with the freedom to voice your ideas about what you want to go for, or if you have no idea and need a helping hand, Vandiveer Photography is a smart, affordable, professional choice!

I took my daughter, Kaelyn, for head shots with Jonathan about two weeks ago. He was so nice and it was a breeze to schedule online! We had hair and makeup done at his studio with Alexis, too, who was awesome. They both listened to what her agents were looking for and strove to keep her, at 15, natural and pretty while getting both commercial (smiling, girl next door) and theatrical (more edgy, gritty) shots. He obviously knew what locations and what wardrobe would work best for both and he nailed it! Jonathan was really good at putting my daughter at ease and making her feel good. He gave her specific, really helpful instructions and information so that she could get the best photos she could and made it fun. We booked only half a session and still we got around 500 photos and three locations with many different looks. Jonathan was wonderful to work with and the pictures came out really, really fantastic. Kaelyn's agents were very happy and got what they had requested in spades. The best part is we got the photos emailed to us within 12 hours of the shoot and once I gave him our choices there was less than a 2 day turnaround to get them photoshopped and optimized for both print and web. I had them on the casting sites within days of the shoot. I have never had that happen before! We will use Jonathan Vandiveer for all her head shots from now on! Thanks Jonathan and Alexis! The session was full of fun, he was very accurate, with excellent quality pictures taken and he has a fast and short turn around time to get the pictures back to me and he cares about the shots taken at the end like they are his own. He is definitely better than any still photographers that I have met on the set or have taken my pictures with.

What types of customers have you worked with?
Most of my shoots are with working or aspiring actors, however I also shoot many professionals as well. Writers, directors, bloggers, scientists engineers, doctors and sometimes just people who want a nice picture of themselves. Headshots and portraits are my thing but I also occasionally shoot album covers, still life and landscape art.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Shop around, find someone who you're comfortable with and who has a proven track record. It's important also to find out how much time they'll be spending with you and whether that time is one-on-one or whether you'll be sharing your shoot time. These questions are often overlooked and can be deal-breakers.
