About Sharon King

I have 25 years experience in making everything, from dresses to boat covers. I'm mainly interested in people who are selling an item they designed, which they want me to manufacture, until sales get so big, and they have to hire a bigger operation.

I also enjoy making clothing for the overweight. For instance, if you have a shirt or a pair of pants you'd like in a different color, I can use the original item as a pattern, make smaller or larger to fit.

I actually sew just about everything my industrial machines can handle, except formal wear, not because I don't have the skills; I've found that I just don't enjoy making things such as wedding dresses.

My customers like the fact that, I get their work done in a timely fashion, and my work looks good. I also work well with leather.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. When I was younger I worked in various factories. I changed jobs a lot because I would cause problems for the other sewing operators by working at a faster rate which made me more money that the rest since it was piece work. So when the jealousy started to bother me I just went to work somewhere else. So I've worked in different types of factories. A jean factory, luggage, purses. swimwear, grip equiptment ect.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Sewing for me is like a meditation.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Usually people want to know how long I've been sewing. I started making my school clothes when I was 15 and went on to work in various factories from Miami {where I grew up} to Manhattan, Texas and California. I moved around a lot when I was young. Today I am 50 and work on my own at home. I hope to have a shop soon.
