The most important thing I like about preparing taxes is the interaction with people I have known for many years. I catch up with what is going on with their families. I have several clients whose children I watched grow up to adulthood and I help them with college ideas and tax returns.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In general, I make an appointment and ask the client to visit the resources page on my website. I have an intake form I want them to fill, scan and send to me with a copy of their most recent tax return. I then have an interview with the client to determine their tax issues and budget.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am presently working on my continuing education to satisfy the IRS. I was granted the Enrolled Agent designation so I have to provide a higher level of service than most tax preparers. Enrolled agents are permitted to practice throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and the other U.S. territories. Accordingly, I have to take any additional classes so that I may prepare multi-state returns.
**UPDATE** You can check me out on CTEC and find that I am no longer registered. That's OK, I do not have to since I am an Enrolled Agent.**
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I basically followed the family business. I decided to do this to spend more time with my father. I subsequently enjoyed working with the clients and learning more about accounting and business.
