Introduction: We take pride in creating renderings and plans that cater specifically to the client wishes. We design with the long term value of the property in mind and we help you find the best solutions. I love the outdoors and creating relaxing spaces to enjoy it. I believe the outdoors has much to offer the user and especially here in beautiful Southern CA we have the ability to plant so many different types of plants from succulents to cutting gardens to high water tropicals.

Liz Duer is a professional that met my needs for a backyard design. She was on time and on budget and very, very timely in her response. She articulated suggestions that I had not thought of that enhanced my submittals and streamlined the Homeowner Application process. I highly recommend Liz Duer to meet your design needs.

Liz was on time and creative with her ideas. She was able to draw up a concept plan and create renderings for our project. She worked with us to get our ideas into the design and advised us on the best strategies for installation. The turn around time was just a couple of weeks and she answered all of our questions. We went from having a dead lawn and plantings that had no life to a well formed landscape with drought tolerant plants that have flowers in different seasons. Would work with her again.

After interviewing 3 different landscape designers, we chose Liz Duer at Red Berm Design, for the re-design of our front and backyard. Our project was quite extensive and included the removal of over 5,000 square feet of grass & plants in the front and backyard, removal of a concrete patio and installation of a new flagstone patio on a very limited budget. With the exception of Liz, all designs were so suburban and commonplace. Liz was wonderful to work with - she asked us about our taste, lifestyle, tolerance for plant maintenance and also was directive regarding what she felt would be the best decisions. Liz was skilled at formulating concepts based on our preferences, drew up a plan that incorporated softscapes and hardscapes with the results being stunning! Liz transformed our largely unused, grassy backyard into a water-wise wonderland with distinct areas for socializing, dinning, and spaces for the kids to play. We use our back yard so much more now that we've had Liz design the space. We worried that removing the lawn in our yard would make the yard look harsh and less inviting, but in reality our new dining area, winding hardscape paths, interesting plantings, just beckon you to come outside and explore. Like any project there were a few bumps along the way, but Liz offered several interesting, and creative, proposals for my consideration, while still emphasizing the practical aspects, such as plant maintenance (high vs. low), water conservation, and weather conditions. Liz was always available to us to answer any questions. Any concerns we had during the process Liz and the team at Compass Landscaping resolved right away. We love the space that Liz created. I cannot say enough about the work-artistry she does, her plant knowledge and her ability to work within a tight budget. To top it off she is very lovely to deal with and is reliable. We have no hesitation recommending her.

Liz is truly committed and has a wonderful understanding of plant options. She is very practical in her recommendations and has resources to help the execution. She expresses her opinions clearly and at the same time worked very well with mine. The designer I engaged earlier (also found thru thumbtack) was impractical and only used the design work to get a landscaping job for her contractor husband. Liz was a breath of fresh air. She excited me about the project again and restored my faith! Very happy with the services she provided.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I work on both residential and commercial projects so there is a range from designing built pergolas, fire pits, and barbecues and working on layouts for apartments, office buildings, and retail areas.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Often times a client will look for the cheapest solution but I have found in this field the cheapest is not always the most long term viable solution. I wouldn't aim for the highest or the cheapest I would aim for the middle.
