Introduction: MY BACKGROUND:
-Classically trained since age 4, over 25 years
-Bachelor's degree in Music from Princeton University; Master's degree in Music Technology from Stanford University
-5+ years of extensive teaching experience with both adults & kids
-Wide range of musical training and knowledge (piano, violin, singing, classical, jazz, improvisation, music technology, music from other cultures)
-Please see my website and YouTube / Spotify channels (click on icons at the bottom of my website) for examples of my work! You can also peruse through my portfolio below for videos of past recitals, etc.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
-Music is a LANGUAGE and I focus on MUSICAL FLUENCY / LITERACY. My goal is to teach the building blocks, vocabulary, and grammar of music, so that YOU can discover and express the music that is in you, in whatever form it takes. This means that I don't strictly focus on perfect replication/performance of classical repertoire, but prioritize the student's full understanding of what they are playing, and being able to apply it creatively in different contexts. I base my teaching on certain aspects of traditional classical training (like reading sheet music, good technique, and repertoire) in order to build a solid foundation, and I also incorporate music theory, improvisation, ear training, music from other genres, etc. for wholistic musical development of the particular student.
MY OFFERINGS / LOGISTICS:
