Efficient team included Chris, my main contact. That was very reassuring because I knew that what I had communicated and agreed to was going to get done. They trimmed a brunch of tree/shrubs growing into my backyard from the neighbors. It looks tons better, although the neighbors yard remains a jungle. Out front, they did a great job trimming a large tree. Chris also gave me advice about replanting the root bound dirt patch below the tree. I'm hopeful that with the improved light from the major trim and added soil (which Chris assured me would not hurt the roots) I will be able to once again enjoy my front yard's aesthetic. Highly knowledgeable, very friendly, very responsive. I'm keeping this number to use these guys next time!

I was quoted the same price that I have paid for 10 years, but when he arrived he wanted another $200.00 dollars. I hired him anyway as I had already talked with 2 other tree trimmers and just wanted the job done. He and his crew completed all work and cleaned up everything. He was also flexible with a time change that I needed and showed up on time.

Alfonso did a great job trimming our Pepper tree. He came out and gave me a very fair estimate and told me when he thought he could do it. He said he would contact me and verify that time, which he did. He came out at the agreed upon time and trimmed the tree and cleaned everything up afterward. I would recommend Alfonso for any tree service you are considering.

I hired Jose from Custom Construction to clean up and haul away a mass quantity of debris from a backyard that had been untouched for a little over 2 years. He also trimmed back an overgrowth of acacia trees. Jose and his crew did a wonderful job at a reasonable price. I will definitely be hiring him again in the future.

They were late (truck trouble) and I kept calling every 1/2 hour to check status. Then it started to rain and we thought we would have to reschedule. During our last conversation he said 2:00 and he got here at 2:15. I asked about the rain and he said "what rain?" Lol!!! Our tree was easily 50 ft. +!!! There were 3 guys total, and they were done AND cleaned up in less than 3 hours!!!!!! WE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!! WHO CARES IF HE WAS LATE!!! PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS, EFFICIENT. Price comparison was ...... Other tree svcs $$$$ vs Evaristo Tree Svc $$. We would use him again!!!

Raygoza's Tree Service was by far the most professional of the bidders when they showed up for the bid walk. Along with their bid, they submitted all the required paperwork. They showed up at the appointed time with the appropriate crew size and equipment, and removed 5 large trees and trimmed another 3 trees. I strongly recommend them to anyone who needs this service.

Kevin and his crew were outstanding. We had several large old dead and diseased trees that needed to come down. This was a very technical and labor intensive job that took two full days. They worked safely, made sure that they were meeting our needs, and left the job complete and cleaned up to a very high standard. I will have them back for more tree work in the future and highly recommend them to all who want quality tree service, a fair and honest price, and a safe conscientious work crew.

These guys were fantastic. I was quoted for my project to be a two day thing, and they finished in about 6 and a half hours. They were clean and did exactly what I was quoted for, which was a total yard clearing. I live on a cul de sac so my yard is pie shaped, and they took it all out. George also trimmed my palm tree for me, which was so nice. Hire these guys ! They're great!

What can I say ... Discount Tree Care is the best. I solicited bids to cut down and remove three trees on one of my properties and Didcount Tree was the lowest of six bids I recieved. They not only gave me a great price but they did a great job. Would highly recommend them and will be using their service again.

I needed some concrete work done so I came to thumtack. This was my 1st time using this app so I was unsure. However, within 30 min or so Jose got in touch with me via message & I called him back the next morning. I told him exactly what I needed & he gave me a great quote. A few days later he was at my house with his assistant getting the work done. He was very friendly, told me exactly what he was going to do, offered suggestions, and cleaned up after the work was done. Liked him so much that I hired him for the next day to trim all 8 of my palm trees, 3 fruit trees, and other tree. He gave me another great price. I have more work to be done, so I will definitely be hiring him again. Glad my husband & I had the opportunity to meet him he's excellent at what he does & our go to guy now!

We are thrilled to have found Francisco! Reluctantly and with much trepidation, my extremely picky husband agreed to hire a garden service. - "No one will manicure my lawn the way I like it!" After a couple of negative experiences, we heard about Francisco Ramos. Francisco with his work quality, professionalism, garden knowledge and expertise, and work ethic are all the things my husband and I were looking for in a garden service. We have the greatest of confidence in all the work he does for us always going above and beyond from tree and shrub trimming, slope clearance, rose pruning, and most importantly, manicuring our lawn! We couldn't be more pleased and highly recommend Francisco Ramos Garden Service!

I had a very large tree in front of my first home I bought and I wanted it gone for our new landscaping plans. A few guys came by and checked it out and gave me a very expensive quote! Daniel removed our tree for a very reasonable price given the size and complexity of the roots. Everyone told me it would take 2weeks and Daniel did it in 1week! He was always respectful and Had great work ethic! I would highly recommend him!

I hired Leo to trim a Eucalyptus-like tree and a pear tree in my back yard. He had a good price and did a nice job in a little less time than i was expecting. He did all the clean up and kept the branches out of the neighbors yard. He had to re-schedule our first appointment, but he called ahead of time to let me know and showed up right at 8am the next time as promised. So i was happy with that. I'm used to most contractors not showing up and telling me a family member was in the hospital. Anyway I recommend Leo and will hire him again.

Finally someone who listened to us and was knowledgable about our situation. He was in the middle in terms of pricing, but, on the high end in terms of quality and reliability. We trusted him, and it also helped that after removing some diseased trees, he would plant the new ones for us. When we asked other tree trimmers about planting, they said no, just wanted to cut trees. JJ's is full service. We will definitely be using him in the future!

Best thing about them was punctuality and responsiveness. My job was complete within 2 days of first call, and it was quick work with the amount of manpower they provide. Only took 2 hours for bush removals and 6 palm tree cleanups, plus cleanup/haul.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
