- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $50 for the first meeting with parents and student. The purpose of the first meeting is to get to know the student and to assess his or her writing. My rate for tutoring is then $70 an hour, which includes my detailed preparation for each session with the student.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated Summa Cum Laude in English from Cornell University. As a Woodrow Wilson fellow, I earned a Masters degree in English and later a second Masters in Education (Reading) from UC Berkeley. I taught writing and literature at UC Berkeley as a teaching fellow and then as a community college exchange teacher in the UC English Department.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have loved teaching ever since I was a student in high school. My long teaching career has included middle school, high school and college teaching, both in the US and abroad. I have taught English at several high schools in the Bay Area, at Denison University, UC Berkeley, and at Ohlone College where I was a Professor of English for many years.
