Introduction: In a word, Awareness. Like any good teacher, I'm always conscious of the student's specific, longterm goals for improvement, but I'm especially aware that each day is different. A student is a person, and people are dynamic. They bring a unique breath, focus and energy into each lesson, and a great teacher can't disregard that. I meet them where they are and, in turn, guide them to their own self-awareness. From that place, we can tackle any new obstacle with a ground of grace beneath our feet.
I love seeing students surprise themselves. They'll sing a line or play a riff and shock themselves when the sound they made hits their ears. It feels awesome! It's like soul candy.
