My experience with Ewa's hypnotherapy was fantastic. She really surprised me with the scope of her sessions - we talked about everything from past lives...to current dilemmas...to yummy herbal teas to drink for clarity. The hypnosis portion was always my favorite part...even though I was merely curious if it would work at first. Honestly, I found it to be the KEY for every session. Combined with the tarot cards she used, I received some Very Clear images to help me on my healing path. I highly recommend!!

As a serial student, I am on a constant quest for self-improvement and life’s truths. This journey began in college with a Psychology degree but after a traumatic divorce I quickly dispelled traditional forms of therapy when I discovered and experience Brief Solution Therapy. I also am a huge fan of Tony Robbins but in my analysis his techniques where remarkably effective on the conscious level. I knew that personal limiting beliefs from my abused childhood residing in my subconscious were preventing me from being my best self. So my journey continued into NLP which in turn led me to Ericksonian hypnosis. All highly valid and powerful forms of therapy yet something was still missing. Enter Randy and Brainspotting. Isn’t life grand!?! “There are no accidents” as it’s only fitting that I write this review on Thumbtack as this is the site that I somehow happened upon that led me to Randy and this strange brief therapy called Brainspotting. Randy immediately responded to my inquiry stating that “Brainspotting goes deeper than hypnosis” so of course I just had to try it. Without spoiling your personal Brainspotting experience in describing the process let me focus on the results: Profound. After just one session I felt an inner calm and peace that I’ve never before experience. Not only was I free of daily struggles but the impact has not been just inner-world but immediately manifested in my outer-world as well. Life has “flowed” effortlessly with tangible new opportunities that have been transformative. Most importantly my newly discovered better self has dramatically and positively affected the lives of my family and the people I love most. What could be more important? Brainspotting has been life-altering for me as I’m certain it will be for you but lastly and most importantly is Randy himself. The love, empathy and compassion I experienced from Randy guiding me through my personal journey of self-discovery as left me in awe of his humanity.

I came to my first experience of hypnosis from what is perhaps an unusual upbringing. There were layers of complexity, trauma and inner conflict involving my family background, the religious teachings of my father and the direction my life was taking personally and professionally. This was particularly around my authentic sexuality (I identify as a lesbian). I had been contemplating using hypnosis but I had not yet found a situation or a practitioner in which I felt open to trying it. Turning my state of consciousness over to the direction of another was a little scary for me. In my father’s belief system, hypnosis was the tool of the devil! I felt an immediate connection with Kaia and sensed that she would create a safe container whereby I could begin exploring my issues through hypnotherapy. Moving into trance, I experienced a powerful vision in which two power animals came to me. They had been waiting for me to give them space and voice so they could offer clarity about how to face my fears, make peace with myself and move forward. Kaia guided this session beautifully and a kaleidoscope of knowings spilled into me. Missing pieces began to emerge. Strength flowed into me. I felt transformed and able to more fully address my lingering doubts about my direction, and solid confidence in my choices. Since that first session, the work has continued with Kaia and evolved. My spirituality and sexuality have become aligned. I am learning how to integrate what I experienced in hypnosis into my day-to-day life. Hypnosis has supported me to know myself on a very deep level. WK

I've had more than 1 session with this woman. All 3 times I was going through heavy things - one time i had just had a spinal surgery and Christina gave me a session as i lay in my bed healing from that - that i received counsel on through the alchemical hypnosis process. i even reconnected with my first true guide/friend - my childhood dog. Her sessions brought clarity to me during dark doubtful times and felt restorative physically, emotionally and spiritually. All 3 sessions felt very different and were honed toward my situation. i highly recommend Christina's services.

I used Carol's hypnotherapy to manage anxiety before a major surgery, to manage pain after surgery, and to help with a positive outcome. As a result, I went into surgery without apprehension. The doctor told me to expect severe pain for a week after surgery and gave me oxy. I never had to take a single pill as I had no pain at all because Carol taught me hypnosis skills to manage pain. My potentially 3 night hospital stay was only one night because I felt so good. At my 2 week follow-up visit the surgeon released me far sooner than he normally would have he said because I had healed so well and quickly. I credit the work that I did with Carol for preparing me for a pain free outcome and quick recovery. I recommend her without hesitation.

I'm so grateful to have found Victoria. She's a great hypnotherapist and healer, one of the BEST!. She has helped me deal through some very stressful situations that were affecting my performance in general. Life can throw some ugly curve balls when you least expect it. So, I turn to Victoria each and every time. Not being a fan of taking meds to deal with stress, insomnia, etc., I turned to hypnotherapy and boy was I glad. Victoria really cares for her clients. Our sessions are never rushed and she knows what to ask to get to the root of the problem. When our hypnosis sessions are over, I always feel so calmed and collected. Having been to several hypnotherapist in my life, I think Victoria is one of the BEST. She also gives you an mp3 recording of your session to play at home. Whenever a stressful situation comes back, I just do my meditation while listening to our recordings, and 20 minutes later, voila! I'm ready to handle any issue. Thank you, Victoria for being there for me. :)

This makes our practice unique, with each of us sharing our special strengths and talents, truly complimenting one another. Clients get "two for one" when they sign up with us, as it is not uncommon for a client to meet individually one time with me and another time with Lynn, making sure the client meets with the person with the specific expertise to assure success. Our clients get the full advantage of each one's unique expertise and specialty services. Both of us are highly skilled hypnotherapists but with specialities in different areas. I have over forty years of counseling experience and specialize in addiction and 12-step support, family and relationship problems, memory/recall (test taking), spirituality and resolution of traumatic events. Lynn specializes in smoke cessation, building confidence and self-esteem, weight management, and professional development (e.g. accomplishing goals, public speaking, procrastination). Of course, both of us handle many other concerns and we consult each other regularly to be sure each client receives the very best we can offer.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a wellness technique that works by promoting positive behavioral or cognitive changes. During successful hypnosis, the client should be eased into a state of deep relaxation in which the conscious mind takes a back seat and the subconscious mind becomes more active. The client is often able to let go of critical thoughts and become receptive to the therapist’s suggestions. In this state of hypnosis, motivating suggestions can bypass your usual mental resistance and internal defense mechanisms. For example, even if you want to quit overeating cupcakes, you may have some level of resistance that your rational mind can’t overcome. During hypnosis, the positive suggestions made by the hypnotherapist can bypass your usual blocks, helping you to achieve the formerly unachievable: stopping overeating, quitting smoking, mastering public speaking, or losing your fear of heights. The goal of hypnosis is to strengthen and empower the client’s motivation, commitment and focus. Consider working with someone who is not just trained in hypnosis but also is a licensed therapist or psychotherapist who can bring their academic background into your session.

What can hypnosis help you with?

According to many sources including the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) which is part of the United States National Library of Medicine and a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), hypnosis is scientifically proven to help relieve both mental challenges and physical pains. Hypnosis can alleviate stress and reduce pain after surgeries, has been shown to relieve anxiety in children in the emergency room, and can be useful for managing pain associated with everything from arthritis to migraines. Hypnosis is non-invasive and gives you a way to control pain or discomfort that might otherwise seem out of your hands. Hypnosis shouldn’t be used as a substitute for medical care, but may be an excellent complementary tool that is best provided by a trained therapist or licensed medical provider. The University of Maryland Medical Center shares many conditions for which hypnosis can be useful:

        • Irritable bowel syndrome
        • Tension headaches
        • Alopecia areata
        • Asthma
        • Phobias
        • Insomnia
        • Addictions
        • Bedwetting
        • Fibromyalgia
        • Labor and delivery
        • Skin disorders, such as acne, psoriasis and eczema (atopic dermatitis)
        • Stress
        • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
        • Cancer-related pain
        • Weight loss
        • Eating disorders
        • Warts
        • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
        • Post-traumatic stress disorder
        • Smoking cessation

How is hypnosis used in therapy?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help clients overcome challenging issues such as anxiety, phobias, pain management, hot flashes and more. Hypnosis is also a way to help let go of addictions like smoking, overeating and gambling. In and of itself, hypnosis is not a therapy, but it can be used in conjunction with therapy to empower and encourage the person receiving it to make positive change. Some people are more susceptible to hypnosis and will benefit more from hypnotherapy than others.

According to Dr. Clifford N. Lazarus, speaking for Psychology Today, hypnosis is a “genuine psychological phenomenon that has valid uses in clinical practice … hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention or concentration, often associated with relaxation, and heightened suggestibility. While under hypnosis (i.e., in a hypnotic trance), it seems many people are much more open to helpful suggestions than they usually are.” The suggestions made in a therapeutic setting get deep into a person’s brain, beyond their conscious thinking, leading to behavior change and the ability to overcome challenges that might otherwise seem insurmountable.

What is the effectiveness of hypnosis?

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recognizes the healing power of hypnosis and its proven effectiveness for anxiety, pain control, smoking cessation, headaches and more. Hypnosis may be safe and complementary way to augment medical attention you are receiving for a chronic illness or pain, or a way to resolve an addiction or phobia that you are otherwise unable to control. Hypnosis does not work on every person. When scientists began studying hypnosis in earnest, a report published by Stanford University titled “The Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale” demonstrated that different brains respond to hypnosis in varying degrees, and a very few do not respond at all. Working with a trained psychologist, you’ll soon determine whether you are a good candidate for the healing benefits of hypnotherapy.

During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will bring you into a state of deep relaxation in which the critical, conscious part of your brain recedes and the subconscious mind becomes alert and focused. The therapist will make suggestions, based on your intended goals, that will take root in your subconscious mind. These suggestions should affect your thinking in a positive way and empower you to make change.
