Introduction
Custom furniture is my passion , and if you take a personal pleasure in beautiful objects and enjoy the process of seeing a design come to fruition, then we will get along.
I’ve been designing and building my own furniture and selling locally as well as taking on commissions for custom pieces in the Bay for 5 years. Most recently I’ve been experimenting with wood turning and centering my designs around that method.
My website shows my current designs, prices on those objects are close to fixed, material will vary that price.
Custom builds require a design fee which covers , drawings and edits (however if major edits get beyond two, an additional fee will be required), material and finish samples and a final estimate.
I’m a good fit if your looking for something unique and specific for your space, together we will create something that you will have for the rest of your life and hopefully will be cherished by further generations.

Robert’s work transforms mundane spaces in to sacred places.
I needed a very special bookcase for my healing arts and creativity studio Moon Landing. We take the energy of the space seriously, and although it was a stretch for me to invest in a custom built in arched bookcase inspired by a huge arch in Lisbon, I have only celebrated that decision ever since x
Robert hear my vision and came back promptly with his design. It was a joy to work with him, and now the bookcase is the centerpiece of the room-people oooh and ahhh at it, and his precision and craft give honor to the books ir holds.
I’ve seen the bay areas most discerning designers and clients be captivated by Robert’s custom builds and artistic furniture he creates. He is a furniture artist-with a mastery of carpentry, color, gesture and design process, if you hire him be prepared to have an heirloom piece of furniture or part of your home you will love for your whole life.

After I discovered Robert Saltonstall at his booth at West Coast Craft fair last year, I had the pleasure of working with him on a custom wood dining table, coffee table, and bar, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was seamless, and the craftsmanship is absolutely stunning.
The dining table is the centerpiece of my home now—its rich, natural wood grain, curved lines and sturdy construction immediately catches the eye of every guest. The attention to detail is second to none, and the finish really enhances the beauty of the wood.
The coffee table is both functional and artistic, with a unique design that fits perfectly with my living room’s aesthetic. It’s clear that Robert has a true understanding of form and function, as the table is just as practical as it is beautiful.
Finally, the custom bar is simply breathtaking. The design is exceptional and the addition of the incorporated light and custom glass shade was inspired. It matched Robert’s proposed design perfect and wad everything I envisioned—perfectly sized, with just the right amount of storage and an elegant design that adds a conversation piece to the space. The quality of the materials used and the level of detail in the work is something you simply can't find in mass-produced furniture.
What really stood out was how Robert took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and provided thoughtful recommendations, and innovative designs. It was truly a collaborative process every step of the way and every piece exceeded my expectations.
