About
I have vast experience as both a professional musician and an educator and I combine these with a genuine caring for each student. It is common for me to hear that I have "incredible patience". I do not follow a rote teaching method but rather approach each student as a unique individual.
Some of my students play exclusively by reading music, others cannot read a single note but can play convincingly by using a chord-based approach.
Although I have students as young as four, I particularly enjoy older adults who want to add to their lives the richness that comes from piano playing. Some have described the vitality that is added to their days by having this new discipline and focus.
I love listening to a new student jam on a 12 bar blues or convincingly play their version of a song they know from a popular artist, past or present.
Please contact me and we can arrange a free 30 minute trial lesson.

I've had 2 lessons so far with James, and I feel James is a wonderful teacher. He listens to what I want to learn, as well as which ways I'd prefer to learn the piano, i.e. reading music, vs more memorization and sounding it out, or a combination, which is what I'm interested in. He caters the lessons to the students interest while also sharing his insight and knowledge to create even more dynamic learning. I highly recommend James as a piano teacher and look forward to continuing my lessons!

James is an outstanding piano teacher. My four year old daughter enjoyed the lessons very much and always looked forward to attending James's class. James is a very special teacher with a gentle demeanor and an abundance of patience. He also has an amazing way of keeping students engaged. I recommend him as a piano teacher without hesitation.

I have a BA in music and have taken extra courses through Berklee College of Music. Most importantly I have decades of experience as a working professional musician and instructor.
