FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have a unique pricing model. I want the job, so I want to entice my customers. So what I do is look around at the prices of other practitioners and then discount quite a bit under that. I also will make arrangements for fixed price jobs to suit individuals who cannot afford an hourly rate (which I do not like). I prefer a fixed price because then I can put extra care into a job.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I always try to stay current via the internet. I don't rely on courses and books much. Sites like lynda.com and free youtube videos, plus commercial trials of Adobe products and cloud subscriptions make it easy to try new tools and/or brush up on the capabilities of the tools you already know.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Writing always came naturally to me. At first, I was a computer professional who wrote some of the time. I helped write computer system purchase orders and Aerospace proposals. Later on, I wrote technical recipes and guides for University staff. In 2006, I naturally migrated into technical support where I corresponded with customers worldwide. In 2008, I was promoted by my CEO to become a writer of technical manuals. From there it was all "downhill." I love writing... I often sit an obscene number of hours per day writing.
