I have asked Elke to make portraits for me. We did both an indoor/in-studio session of yoga poses and an outdoor session of face/full body portraits in Berkeley area and they came out great. Each session was about 2h long. She edited them all and I had many to choose from. I really like Elke's creativity with props, her attention to details and overall talent as a photographer. I have also hired Elke to come to my home for Feng Shui work in a 2h session. She rearranged a few pieces of furniture and decorative items. She also made some color and texture suggestions. She was able to use items I already had, versus having to buy some new pieces from a store. She even went as far as buying a beautiful wall art for me from a thrift store for a ridiculous price, because she knows all the right places to shop. She is knowledgeable, realistic, efficient and generous with her time and skills. I highly recommend her services!

About

I use feng shui principals to improve the energy in your home or business. I have completed two master practitioner courses and several smaller classes. During a consult, I observe, take compass directions, and take pictures. I will also ask questions about you and your space. I may make suggestions on rearranging your space, this may also include adding or removing items in each space. One of the things my clients really appreciate is that I use what they already own. I understand most people are on a budget, if needed, I will suggest inexpensive ways to improve your space. Consultations can be accomplished in several ways, I have had great success through emails, I can do on-site consults and by phone. I love what I do, and enjoy sharing feng shui.

About

We will come to your home or business that you have or are planning to have on the market, perform a feng shui analysis, and develop recommendations for you. Once you implement them, we guarantee your home or business to receive an accepted offer within 60 days, or you owe us absolutely nothing! Once the sale closes, you pay us a small percentage; risk-free. We provide feng shui consulting services geared towards the sale of real estate. We are happy to help you clear the way for the next stage in your life, and to move on from old attachments. Our favorite cases are sites which seem to be hard sellers. Contact us to schedule your consultation now! You owe us absolutely no fees unless you receive an accepted offer within 60 days of implementing our recommendations, and the sale closes. We use classical feng shui principles and a myriad of modalities, based on your specific circumstances and needs, to help you achieve your goals. We will provide you with a set of recommendations for adjusting your living or working environment in a way that makes it the most supportive for human life. Using a broad spectrum of modalities, we are able to raise the vibration of a particular space, clear it of negative energy, and fill it with an atmosphere that feels so good that once a buyer walks into your home or business that's on the market, they won't want to ever leave! We also use a kind of "earth acupuncture" for space, activating certain areas to attract a desired result. Just like our bodies have meridians through which our life force flows, so does the environment all around us. We are able to map out this flow of energy in a space based on the compass directions, which way the site is sitting and facing, and the center of the space. In your consultation, we will: - Help you identify areas of your life which may be impeding the sale. - Complete a thorough assessment of your home or workplace. - Offer you a series of recommendations for you to put into action right away. Process: The consultations we offer are a two-part program. Before your consultation, we will examine the land formations that your home or business resides upon, to see how the earth energies may be affecting the site. We will also look at your astrology, and your energetic relation to the site. At your first session, we will interview you, walk through and around the site, take notes and photos, and possibly conduct an activation of energy on the site using feng shui modalities. After we have finished our analysis, we will then take a couple hours to ourselves at the site to develop a recommendation report for you on the spot. After presenting you with the recommendation report, we ask that you implement a fair amount of the recommendations that we have agreed upon with you together within seven days of the consultation. After you have implemented a fair amount of the recommendations we have given you, we will return again to meet with you at the site to view the implementation of the recommendations. We may or may not make further suggestions at this time, either verbally or in writing. We will follow up with you by phone every week for 60 days after our second meeting, or until the sale closes, whichever comes first. The day after our second meeting will begin Day One of the 60 Day Time Frame we guarantee your home or business will sell in, or you owe us nothing! If you receive an accepted offer within 15 days, you pay us 1% of the entire sale. If you receive an accepted offer between the 16th and 30th day, you pay us 0.75% of the entire sale. If you receive an accepted offer between the 31st and 45th day, you pay us 0.5% of the entire sale. If you receive an accepted offer between the 46th and 60th day, you pay us 0.25% of the entire sale. Payment is due within 15 days of the closing of the sale. Contact us to schedule a free 20 to 30-minute phone conversation to discover if our services are right for you.

There are two sides to the work that I do through my company Earthwise Design Consulting LLC. My work as a LEED Design consultant helps clients with the five categories of green building which are sustainable sites, water efficiency , energy efficiency , renewable resources, and indoor environmental quality. The other side of my work is Feng Shui, an ancient practice of living in harmony with the earth. After years of consulting with clients on Feng Shui, I have created my own system called Funki Shui. Funki Shui is the soulful blending of Feng Shui and the earth traditions of my African, Native American, and European ancestors. I utilize the principles of these ancient traditions and " funk” it up for the modern environment . My work includes residential, commercial and both indoor and outdoor environments. “Something happens when we connect with nature. Your cells begin to remember that you are a part of a whole living system. I want to give my clients that same feeling in their living and working spaces.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
