Introduction: ***First 1 hour lesson for $30, group lessons available*** Hi everyone! My name is Miku. I was born in Hawaii and raised in Japan. I graduated from Dokkyo university in Saitama, Japan, and majored in hospitality and tourism. I was a former flight attendant for ANA (All Nippon Airways) living in Tokyo, Japan until I moved to Hawaii in 2016. I’m now a flight attendant for American Airlines. I took classes to become a teacher at university, and have been teaching Japanese almost 10 years now. I can help you with conversation skills, correct pronunciation and proper grammar. I usually use a textbook called ‘Genki’ for my lessons. I provide the textbook so you don’t have to buy it. With ‘Genki’ we can work on various grammar points, vocabulary building, situational role playing, pronunciation, and plenty of exercises to improve your listening and speaking skills. I try my best to keep the classes as relaxed as possible so that you can feel comfortable speaking and can learn at your own pace. I only do lessons over Skype or FaceTime, so no in-person lessons. miku is the perfect teacher. she is patient and helps walk you through anything youre confused about. i had some experience with japanese before starting lessons, although it wasnt much and i was rusty, miku was able to explain it and get me back up to speed. shes always able to give me the perfect answer to any questions i may have she is punctual and always on time, and always makes sure to let me know about her availability for our next lesson! shes super professional, and also kind :) you can tell she really wants to help you succeed and accomplish your goals. she knows what i need to work on and we establish a plan on how to get it done. i look forward to all of our lessons and i feel accomplished after every single lesson.

Miku is a *fantastic* Japanese teacher. She structures lessons thoughtfully, communicates clearly, pays high attention to detail, and is patient. I had no previous exposure to Japanese language instruction and could see tangible progress after a month working with Miku. Miku has been beyond useful in helping my personal understanding of the Japanese language. She has always been punctual and has lessons almost every week possible. I generally ask a million questions and she answers every single one to the best of her ability without making the answers too confusing for someone new to Japanese. I think going through Genki 1 with her has mostly helped my grammer. I have to form Japanese sentences every lesson and her corrections are very useful due to how she explains even the smallest reasons why you'd say something one way in Japanese and not a different way. I can't speak to the quality of other tutors because this is my first tutor but I can say that if you want a tutor that is easy to understand and easy to speak with without feeling judged or pressured then she is perfect. みく先生ありがとうござました！

Mikuさん is awesome! I started taking Japanese lessons for fun (I go to Asia every year - thought it would be helpful) - this year was obviously different due to COVID but helpful in another way: I can listen to my anime’s now and understand some of the sentences without having to sit in front of the screen (so if I walk away for a second I’m not 100% missing out). And that’s just with lessons for under a year, she’s very good at going over vocabulary and incredibly patient (cannot stress this enough!). Even though we are on opposite sides of the US she is very accommodating with timing lessons as well. Can’t say enough good things about Miku I look forward to my lessons every week. 😊

Miku is a great teacher to work with! I've been doing weekly lessons with Miku remotely since December of 2019 (now July 2020 as I'm writing this) starting from no experience. I was worried about my ability to learn a new language since my only experience prior to this was learning Spanish in school years ago, but learning to read and speak Japanese with Miku's guidance has been the right level of challenging, and fun. Miku is a great communicator, flexible, really knowledgeable, adds nuance to the lessons we move through, and also really just fun to talk to and learn from.
