Introduction: Do you charge hourly or by the job?
Both! It is sometimes easier and less expensive to just charge an hourly rate, but I also give estimates as well. I base my hourly rate on the level of mastery required. I charge a little more per hour for finish carpentry, plumbing, or electrical where a higher skillset is required than I do say, painting, landscape repairs, or tear out and haul away.
