I am not a pet owner however, Tiffany was willing to check on my house while I was away for a month. My plants received tender loving care in my absence. Her regular checks on my property gave me peace of mind. She communicated regularly and adjusted her schedule during a heat wave when my plants needed extra attention. If I were a pet owner I would feel very confident with the knowledge that Tiffany was in charge of my pet's care. For those without pets, call on Tiffany. She will definitely go the extra mile to be sure that your home will be watched over from all perspectives.

My two boston boys LOVE to visit! They always come home happy, tired pups. They obviously get the best of care! They become one-of-the-family when they visit Dani's Pawsative Pet Care! They are kenneled at night, play outside during the day (weather permitting), and often lay around with the family at night. Great place - highly recommended!

Jeannette is AMAZING!!! She gave THE BEST care to all of our animals while we were on vacation and she went above and beyond to make sure that not only were our animals loved and cared for but that our house was safe and secure. She took out the trash, did a few dishes and even returned a Netflix movie we had left on the counter!!! I would HIGHLY recommend Jeannette for pet sitting and look forward to planning more vacations so we can use her again!

Our senior dog was wandering near our pool and Heather rushed right over to put her back behind the gate so she couldn't fall in. This dog is 17, can't hear and can hardly walk. I was worried about leaving her with a pet sitter but I now see how dedicated Heather is and I am much less worried now.

I contacted Karen last year to take care of my cat Bryan while we were away in Peru for 2 weeks during the holidays. Karen was able to accomodate specific instructions concerning bryan and even went out of her way to give me an affordable price for a twice a day visit. I was initially impressed with how thorough Karen was! She has a professional form to fill out so you can put all of the specific details about your pet and their care on paper. This was particularly helpful for me since I wanted to make sure all of the details about Bryan were outlined. The form even includes a section so you can put any other items beyond pet care that you may require while away. I needed the mail collected, garbage taken out, delivered packages brought in, garden watered and house plant care. Karen went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. I recently moved from Carmichael to Folsom and asked Karen to cat sit again for a week while I was out of state. She was able to drop by before I left town to discuss the particulars of the new house and visit with Bryan. Both times Karen has taken care of Bryan I have been please with her work. She emailed me status updates while I was out of the country and texted me updates while I was out of state. This was very comforting to me because I was missing my boy! On both occassions our flights were delayed and/or cancelled making our return day/time prolonged. Karen was able to drop back by the house and care for Bryan on short notice due to the flight problems which was a relief during a stressful time for us! Karen is absolutely the best! We could not be more pleased with her. We will continue to seek her assistance every time we need a pet sitter for sure!

Lori provided excellent care for my 3 dogs. One of my dogs required special needs care, as she was an older dog who had doggie dementia. She made sure she was given plenty of liquids to avoid dehydration, food, etc., plus cuddling her made all the difference. While away, my dog needed to be taken to the Vet for emergency care. She took charge and worked with the Vet for the care. My other two dogs were given excellent care with walks, food and extra special time for them. She gave all dogs the extra care and love. Whenever they see Lori, they are always so excited to see her. I will work with Lori in the future for my pet care and would recommend her for taking care of your pets.

I am an owner of an extremely protective 160 pound St. Bernard. She has extreme issues with social interactions with people if they are not family. I was so fortunate to find Coune's Canines. Stacy was extremely brave on that first visit. My dog lunges at her many times and barked non stop. She came back! And we tried her entering the house with my dog in her cage. This went on for many weeks but finally a breakthrough my dog allowed her to pet her through the cage. Now Stacy is easily her good friend! She can walk her around the property play inside with her and when I tell my dog she is coming to visit she is very excited. I never thought I would find anyone that would work with my temperamental girl. But I would highly recommend Coyne's Canines. They care about your pet and treat them like their own.

About

I have reviews and tons of clients who are willing to talk for references. I guess after 16 years, that's one of the wonderful things that happens: trust! I am an experienced and trained vet nurse/pet sitter, and I'm available 7 days a week. I provide daily drop-by pet sitting for your little loved ones, while you're here or away! I've been doing this for 16 years, and I have built a wonderful clientele in S.F. but have recently moved to Napa Valley where I plan on moving my business. I take care of healthy and not-so-healthy dogs and cats. I worked in veterinary medicine for many years, and I have the experience of administering many types of medication, whether it is insulin injections, hydration or oral medications. What I love the most is feeding, playing with them, and giving unconditional love around the clock!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
