Below is the exact complaint I submitted with the Better Business Bureau. It’s been an awful experience and she’s currently threatening legal action to take more of my money for producing absolutely nothing useable. Having a signed agreement in place is not the end-all nor does it justify non-performance, bullying clients or not holding yourself accountable for shoddy work. Be aware. Designer threatening to sue me for $4,000 of a $5,900 agreement and did not perform according to agreement. I needed plans/docs created for submittal with County for construction of cabin, water well, septic system, etc. DR Design Studio LLC “DR DS” (thumbtack.com), Damaris (owner) assured me she could meet all needs and had done rural/undeveloped land projects 10+ years. Several detailed critical docs were supplied to her like Environmental Layout, Plat & Tract Maps. I signed agreement 9/6/24, paid $2,066 agreement to start. “Item 1” is Site/Plot Plan. It involves any/all project elements incorporated in one area. This is 1 of at least 7+ items needed for completion. -On 10/4 she sent 1st doc with separate invoice for additional $2,000 claiming item 1 complete. It was a watermarked doc full of fundamental errors with nothing required for a site/plot plan. She simply transferred property lines onto another doc and re-labeled. It had absolutely nothing useable/complete. 2nd page was as poor, a software generated floor plan with nothing useable. A professional draftsman would not even recognize this as actual work. I sent detailed response (see attachment) and following morning suggested terminating early to avoid disaster. -She called and was unable to justify her work, so we scheduled a zoom. She admitted there were mistakes but was unable to correct them with me on the zoom. At this time I vehemently believed to terminate due to Non-Performance and kindly asked her to refund, less her site visit, so $1,736. She said no and that she would come after me for another $2,000. -She emailed later that evening with the same doc with a few last ditch effort items added, still with errors. I’m pursing a refund/action with thumbtack and I’ve also contacted Chase Visa to let them know that there’s wrongdoing. Damaris from DR DS is now threatening to sue me for another $2,000 (on top of the $2,000 she collected) if I continue pursuing a refund with Thumbtack.

Joseph, As you may already know, at dr | ds, we value our mental health, and you were verbally abusive over the phone and in the video call conversation. We terminated the agreement with you for these reasons: 1. Verbal abuse 2. Breach of Agreement 3. Refusal to communicate with the intention of understanding of the process 4. Abusive tactics to pressure us to refund you after working on your project for three weeks After carefully considering it, we decided not to continue working with you and offered to waive the $2,000 payment due, which is already a loss for our company. As professionals, we often encounter clients like you who, after willingly entering an agreement with us, knowing the process and terms of our contract, start to minimize our work to stop paying us. We understand this doesn't define the quality of our work and the professional treatment of our clients. We have active and former clients who can provide excellent testimonies, have become great friends, or are just regular nice clients. We will continue providing outstanding services to our current and future clients, and hopefully, you'll be able to find the right person for your project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start with a phone call to have an idea of what you need, get all the important information to develop a proposal, and answer any questions you may have about me or the process. We start every project with a visit and walkthrough and we work on our projects in 3D for a better understanding of the design.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Went to Architecture Undergraduate School and worked directly with Licensed Architects and Interior Designers before starting my own Design Studio.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been passionate about design and enjoyed every aspect of creating spaces that make us feel better. This is why my experience spans from interior design to architectural design; to deliver a comprehensive experience in my projects.
