Amy is a seasoned professional! This past February she played her violin at my wedding and did an incredible job! In the months leading up to the big day she discussed song options with me and helped to figured out just what I wanted. She was also proactive in communicating with the other musicians (a singer and an organist) who I had hired through the church. The music was perfect! Amy plays her instrument beautifully, is prompt and professional, and a pleasure to work with.

Our DJ and musicians from About Music Pro, Were purely phenomenal they exceeded all our expectations! As a company they were very easy to work with -- specifically Gary Rich. He was helpful and very resourceful he match us to a DJ and musicians with all of the qualities we were looking for. There was a point in the wedding that somebody said to me, "WOW !! -- I don't think anybody's NOT on the dance floor right now." Enough said. They were awesome!

I needed a musician for a company event and had only one day to hire someone after a miscommunication with the original talent. A coworker told me about Thumbtack, thankfully! After thoroughly reviewing all of the quotes I received, I chose Cameron. I knew he'd be perfect for the group of people we were entertaining. Definitely made the right choice! People were engaged, dancing, truly enjoying themselves. I will be hiring Cameron for future company events and my own personal gatherings as well. If you're looking for a professional musician, I highly recommend Cameron. Cameron is on time, prepared, ready to make great music, he will have you and your guests dancing nonstop. Thanks for taking the job last minute. You put on a great show and I'd even go as far as saying I'm glad the original talent dropped out. It was great doing business with you. You were born to entertain!

I own a music company that Hector sub-contracts for, he is one of our most valued and well loved instructors. Hector's passion for music is infectious and it certainly propels his students in their learning. A huge plus is that Hector is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a lot of experience performing, writing music and teaching ALL ages. Needless to say we love Hector both as a person and an instructor and would highly recommend him!

I really wish there was a 6th star in this rating system, used solely for a professional who brings both passion and genius to his work. Joey Earnest is the real thing. He, unlike the majority, deserves a 6th star. He is an outstanding musician, in sax and piano, in his own right, but he also is incredibly patient with our 12 year old son who is bright but not dedicated to saxophone (yet). I am a college level professor and I can clearly see Joey has the "gift" of a great music teacher. Thank you Joey for coming into our family's lives.

As a professional musician (guitar and vocals) that does not read music, I have had a few lessons with this guy to help with my reading of music, theory, and soloing. He presents everything to me in a very understandable manner and exudes the utmost patience in getting me to the next level. I have never had music lessons before so this seemed daunting at first but now I have broken through long standing plateaus and I am reinvigorated to push myself to the next level. I will definitely be continuing this approach with Mr violin in the future.

I've been receiving alto sax lessons from Dave for a few months, and I feel my understanding for the instrument and music in general has been greatly broadened. Each lesson he reveals something I didn't even know I didn't know about playing. His good humored wisdom and wit, paired with stories of a lifetime spent in love with music, create a safe, comfortable environment to deepen inspiration and growth.

BPEACE is the most soulful musician in Southern California. I was blown away at how smooth and kool this guy sounds. I’m definitely hiring him for another event. Do yourself a favor and get BPEACE before he goes global. This is the sound and vibe that gets you noticed, and it’s BPEACE’s time.

Josh and I married September 6th at the Scripps Forum in La Jolla and Republic of Music (ROM) made our wedding day the BEST DAY EVER!!!! Since I had been planning our wedding from Washington, I didn't get to see the band live prior to our wedding. My dad and siblings went to see ROM play at Club M in Del Mar and they were blown away!! I was already impressed by the reviews and YouTube videos I had seen and read. I knew they were going to be the perfect match for our wedding day and I was totally right!! ROM is professional, fun, amazing and freakishly good at their craft! Vocals were ON POINT and the musicians brought the funk!! We opted to splurge on horns two weeks before the wedding and it was a great decision!! Our guests LOVED the band and their personalities and stage presence set the mood for the night. I cannot say enough about Tiana and how amazing she is to work with. She eased my way from the moment I spoke with her. (I had already booked another band but changed my mind once I was told about ROM) She provided me with piece of mind and made our day run so smoothly. The band did an excellent job keeping our day on schedule and emceed the entire event perfectly. It was really comforting to know that our families could enjoy the evening and not have to worry about making announcements or keeping the night on schedule. Dinner music was amazing, slower songs really allowed you hear just how amazingly talented the vocalists are. As the evening progressed Josh and I did not stop dancing all night along with our guests! My sisters and I also got to be band mates for the day and sing with the band which was pretty epic!! My dad is a man of few words, but he couldn't stop talking about the band for days!! He already said he wants to book ROM for their 40th wedding anniversary!! If you're looking for a band for your big event, stop looking!!! You have found who you are looking for!! ROM will not disappoint! I wish I could crash all the weddings they performed at so I can sing and dance the night away. That's how awesome they are! Thank you ROM for everything!!! Your forever fans, Mr. & Mrs. Calkins!

Ron and his musicians were outstanding!! I hired them for a '40s Big Band Pary for 2 hours and did the deliver! They were very much accommodating to our residents and the staff. Very upbeat group of men who sang and danced with our residents, which made all the ladies very happy! The music was spot on and made us all feel like we really were in the 1940s. Very happy with the performance and their attitudes, absolutely one of the best!

I was looking for a cellist to accompany me (I'm a singer/acoustic guitarist) at my sister's wedding in Massachusetts. Daniel came highly recommended by a local music store owner, as he was living and playing music in Western Massachusetts at the time. I was nervous, as I'd never heard Daniel play before, and because I was in town from California just a few days before the wedding, we were only able rehearse once. To my delight and extreme relief, Daniel was easy to work with, a consummate professional and an excellent musician. He was also quite versatile - we performed two contemporary tunes together (an Alanis Morissette song + a Bonnie Raitt song), and he played several instrumental, classical pieces before the ceremony. He was fluent in both genres, and the music was absolutely beautiful! I'm so glad Daniel has relocated to SoCal, as I'm looking forward to working with him again. I highly recommend Daniel for your next event!

Both my son and I have taken guitar lessons from Brian for a few years. It has been a great experience learning a wide variety of styles, from classic Rock to Jazz. And his patience has definitely helped our playing improve over time. I would recommend Brian for anyone from beginner to experienced.

Chris is an incredible musician and human being with whom I have the privilege to work with regularly. His knowledge in music is as deep as it is broad, and his skill on both the saxophone and keys is impressive. We've performed on several tours together, and we collaborate in the studio fairly often as well - another area where he has great expertise. I highly recommend Chris for your musical needs!!

Les is a great musician and wonderful entertainer, a true professional. I've heard nothing but good comments about him from fellow musicians as well as the audience. In fact, I have seen him go out of his way out of his way to please his audience. He always seems to be working on something new in a very organized and disciplined way.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

          What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

          • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
          • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
          • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
