Introduction: In 2012, I was admitted to practice law in the State of California and have done so with the largest criminal defense law firm in San Diego, the Public Defender's Office. I have received training and guidance from California's greatest legal minds. From speeding tickets to homicides, I have represented them all. For the last 7 years, I have represented over 4,400 criminal cases. I have the experience of nearly 50 jury trials, and countless motions and preliminary hearings. I will protect you when the system can’t.

Michael is very professional, reassuring and very very responsive and communicates clearly and concisely, which comes as a huge relief in navigating the criminal justice system. He is fully transparent and is always available when I reach out. I strongly recommend retaining Michael as your attorney.

We are still working on this issue, but so far, Attorney Hawkins has been very attentive, assertive and very professional. I especially appreciate his concern for my well being. He is very organized, knowledgable and has real knack for understanding the court process. I believe he truly cares about his clients.

Michael Hawkins

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer hourly and flat fee retainers. I offer payment plans. I offer military, student, and teacher discounts.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I must know my clients, and they must know me. I want my clients to know my motivations and goals, and in turn I want to know everything about my client. The more I know about the human, the better I can represent the client. Our first meeting is usually pretty long; I want to know where you were born, who your parents are, what work do you do, what are your passions, and more. After our first meeting, I want to make sure that I am the right attorney for you. I want my clients to ask any and all questions of me. Ask me about my upbringing. Ask me “why criminal defense?” And more!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attended undergraduate and law school in San Diego. I attended school part-time and worked full-time. In law school I worked for the Office of Assigned Counsel, a branch of the Public Defenders office. I regularly attend continuing legal education (CLE) trainings to hone my craft.
