About
Studied at SFSU, Berklee Online, accepted to SFCM in 2017 - did not attend. I am very proficient at classical guitar and composition for guitar(I've studied the major texts for harmony for guitar, which is only one piece of the puzzle of course if you're trying to create something new.), and moderately proficient at jazz guitar and making solo jazz and classical guitar arrangements. I could also teach folk and rock styles. I believe classical technique is a solid foundation for exploring other styles and not only classical. I have a passion for teaching and adapt to what students want to learn and how they learn. I have a strong foundation in music theory and harmony and how it is applied to the guitar, and can take you through systematic material if you're interested. My teaching style is holistic - I try to engage the students’ ears for music through listening, playing, and ear-training exercises, and I have my students play repertoire as well as explore other avenues of creativity such as improvisation. Most importantly, I want the students to enjoy their lessons with music they want to learn or things that I intuit would be interesting for them and that is suitable to their capabilities, whatever their age or level of ability. I believe music is a great way to develop the discipline, sensitivity, mental agility, and creative and analytical thinking that would serve any music student well in any discipline. I only do Zoom lessons unless you live in San Francisco - we'll work things out. Rates: 1 hr - $50 45 min - $40 30 min - $30 Sliding scale available Free 20 minute trial lesson available I practice piano regularly(because it's important) and I don't play just one style of music. I'm very much interested in the mechanics of music and how they can be used creatively for compositional/improvisational vehicles while also appreciating the repertoire that is out there, for guitar or otherwise. I teach mostly children. If you're an adult that wants to be pro I can take you through the gauntlet. I also play viola and sing.

Though it had been quite a while since I did any kind of musical study, Andrew's instruction picked up where I left off. While I started out as a guitar novice, Andrew's been terrific at challenging me. We don't have pre-concieved notions of what I 'can do' and 'can't do', rather we just take on challenges and that has been terrific for me.

Andrew is a very professional guitar player and teacher with proper training and lots of knowledge. I learned a lot from our one hour session and feel confident about practicing more to become a good player. I will have more lessons with him in the future and I would recommend him for others who want to learn classical guitar style! The pieces he played were all beautiful!

Details: 18 - 25 years old • No formal training • Yes, can read music staff • Acoustic • Rock • Blues • Jazz • Classical • Country • What the teacher recommends • No, but the student is planning to purchase an instrument • 60 minutes • At the pro’s location • My home, venue, etc.
