FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I very much fell in to my line of work. When I moved to San Francisco from New York, a friend of mine let me stay in her apartment. She had to go away for the weekend, and in an off-hand remark said, "If you'd like to reorganize any of my closets or furniture, please feel free to do so." She had no idea I secretly loved doing that. So I asked, "Are you serious? Because I will." With her permission, I completely reorganized her linen, tool & laundry closet - buying her a few tools to keep things neat. When she came home, she was so impressed that she said, "You have to do this professionally." With her encouragement, I created Let's Get Organized!
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently worked with a woman who had a young daughter and a new baby on the way. We walked through their whole home, and finally decided to focus on organizing the master bedroom and daughter's room. Bedrooms are so intimate, and I believe should be a calm place to take refuge. This particular job would benefit from the reorganization of furniture, in addition to purging old items. Moving furniture takes trial and error. Not everything works the first time, but can really make a room flow better, or allow a couple to live more easily with each other, if each person is given their own space. In the end, we opened up the flow of the rooms, allowed the couple their own space, as well as a special play space for their daughter. We let in light by exposing a window that had been hiding behind bookshelves, and re-situated their daughter's bed so she could be read to at night. This client was so open to new ideas that it really made the work fun.
