FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I custom quote and negotiate every job, working off of default rates I have for both non-broadcast and broadcast work as determined by job type, content usage scope and term, and service level requirements.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, we make sure we're on the same page re. cost entry point. My rates are quite competitive but I am a professional, and clients who are new to hiring VO pros don't always know it's like booking an hour with a lawyer (because we spend most of our time auditioning, not doing billable work). Second, I get a sense of the job spec. Simple explainer animation / video to live on a website homepage? Internal-only use e-learning / online training narrations? Radio spot that will run in a given market for a few months? Whatever it is, we net that out. Also, we net out the service level and deliverable specs: Will I be performing live-directed or self-directed, and if the former, from home or onsite at another studio? Also, will I need to provide finished, production-ready edits or will I only need to provide raw audio per someone else covering final selects and edits? Next, I provide an audition / demo read for them to consider, share with their colleagues and/or client etc. Lastly, if it's a green light from there we lock it in, put it on the (sessions / delivery) calendar per whatever the timeline needs are, and roll. We keep it easy, turn-key and fun, and get the job done! :)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I train regularly and privately with my coach, and I've had different coaches over time. Between gigs and auditions I regularly do exercises which are basically mock auditions, and I continually network and discuss the business with my peers.
