I have been working with Monica for 4 months and both my reading comprehension and verbal skills have improved 2 fold. She is a natural teacher. One of the areas of development I wanted to improve was my pronunciation of words, not just there meaning. Monica has a great ear and will catch the failed emphasis and correct you. She doesn't correct to embarrass or to make you feel small; in fact just the opposite-it's improve your understanding of the nuances of the language and thus better able to learn it. You will learn a lot of different verb drills and have fun doing it. One that has really helped me; she has you write about some experience ( past-future or-present depending where you are in your development) in English and then translate into Spanish. As you practice this skill, you will begin to notice improvement in your comprehension and speaking skills. Bottom-line, she's a great teacher and if you sign up (which you should), I recommend that you take at least two classes per week if your schedule permits as this is the best way to stay focused. Good luck!Apr 7, 2020
Monica was great! Fun and does a good job of figuring out what needs to be done to take students to the next level.Apr 7, 2020Verified

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?First, I determine student's level and goals. I set timelines and goals according to their needs and customize a course for them. Second, I share or recommend the materials needed for the student to use during class and at home. Finally, I monitor milestones and give students the tools to continue learning outside of class.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?As a Journalism and Political Science Major at San Diego State University, I was required and met the highest level of English and Spanish needed for teaching. While writing for several bilingual publications, I began translating my own articles to reach a wider audience and began my career as a translator and later as an interpreter. My work in Broadcasting and Voice Overs led me to accent reduction techniques for myself, which I now share with my students.
