Introduction: I teach world music instruments including djembe, Arabic tambourine, frame drums, didgeridoo, esraj, harmonica, Native American flute, and voice. I am versed in a wide breadth of musical styles, genres, and rhythms from around the world.
I am very passionate about helping people free their voices and delight in teaching people to sing and drum at the same time.
By using different modalities and switching between them, I help people free their voices in ways they never imagined. Together, we look at the nuts and bolts of singing including proper breathing techniques, relaxing and opening the throat, projection, pitch, scales, etc. My philosophy of singing/voicework is 3 fold: 1. Tune the instrument. 2. play music (sing) with your tuned instrument 3. connect in with your intention/emotional resonance with the song and make it uniquely yours to express your soul song. I believe that so much of voice work is psychological, so with students who want to delve into this realm, I use expressive arts techniques to help shake loose our restrictions and limitations we place on ourselves. These creative processes provide a lot of insight and allow for release of the voice and throat to really sing, sound and speak your truth. I also use sound meditations to help people relax and go deep into their bodies with sound in a non-self-conscious manner.
My voice lessons are so much more than technical tuning and musical skills. Think a dose of therapy with lots of technical instruction, improv, performance coaching, creating your own songs, presentations, play, and getting out of your own way. Before your know it, you will be expressing your voice with a lot of confidence and joy and showing up more powerfully in life.
I love helping people open to their own creative power and free their voices!
