I’m Terri Tang, founder of Pallas Learning and an educational strategist with a pure mathematics degree from UCLA.
Over 8 years I’ve worked with students across the full range, from students with learning differences who needed an entirely different approach, to advanced learners ready to be pushed further than their classroom allowed. Every student I’ve worked with on college applications has gotten into their first choice school.
My approach starts with diagnosis before instruction. Whether a student is struggling or simply not performing at their real level, I identify exactly where things are breaking down and build the right path forward from there.

Terri was truly a Godsend. Her tutoring was key to my son's success in sophomore and junior years of high school math - Integrated Math. She was able to take an easily distracted student athlete with a busy schedule and turn him into a great math student. It didn't happen overnight, and it took work and study on the part of my son, but she not only provided the instruction that his math teacher and I (sigh) sadly could not, she helped him focus and train his mind to become a better student.
Terri is an awesome tutor, but more importantly she is a great person. Terri is down-to-earth, kind, sympathetic and cool. My son responded to her not because he loves math, but because she took the time to get to know him, his personality and his study language, and yes, she is a Mathmatician ... Yes... What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rate reflects 8 years of specialized work with students across a wide range of needs, from learning differences to advanced academic preparation to college applications. I work with a small number of students at a time to ensure every family receives focused, personalized attention. College application support is available as a package rather than hourly.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first session is always diagnostic. Before I teach anything I want to understand how the student thinks, where their understanding breaks down, and what has been tried before. From there I build a specific plan for that student, not a generic curriculum. I also send families a written recap after sessions so they always know what we worked on, where their child stands, and what to focus on before next time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a degree in pure mathematics from UCLA. Pure mathematics is not applied math or math education. It is the rigorous study of mathematical reasoning at its most fundamental level. That training gives me the ability to meet a student anywhere in their understanding and build a precise, logical path forward from exactly where they are.
