RIcardo was great - super helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. He was incredibly responsive and was willing to pitch in on additional things to help make my move out as smooth as possible. For projects he helped install some flooring, paint, move some furniture and patch some holes. Would recommend him for sure.

Very quick, clear communication. Came at 6:30 a.m. as that was the only time I could meet and they arrived early. Good quality clean. My only suggestion would be using another floor cleaner because it was sticky, but my floor was pretty dirty...so it may have been that. Very reliable.

Vyron was the most responsive contractor we had, originally unsure if we were going to use him for just the demo or the demo + remodel, and he was diligent and professional the entire time. Vyron removed around 300 sq ft of tile and he laid new tiles for us. Our floor was on a cement base (uneven) which he evened out for us as well. They were on time, cognizant our my dogs when they came in and out of the gate, and even recommended the pattern which we LOVE! I highly recommend him and offered to be a reference as well. Thanks Vyron!

Liseth and Nilda did a great job deep cleaned our apartment. Bathroom wall tiles and floor were sanitize and whiten. I was expecting a bit more like cleaning the walls and toilet tank which wasnt done. I guess not enough time. Kitchen part, the stove inside and out were scrubbed and cleaned. Outside refrigerator, cabinets's door were wiped except the inside drawers and cabinets. Again, they're running out of time. Kitchen floor were scrubbed, sanitized and mopped. Last part was the living room. It was vacuumed and dust a few appliances. Lot of work. Good job ladies!! Not bad at all! I will hire Liseth again.

"Ana's cleaning did a great job. I'm thrilled because its been awhile since I've had my house cleaned. I really wanted my medicine cabinet cleaned and the kitchen floor.. they did a good job. I was able to meet Ana to explain my needs and ran into the two cleaners before I left for school... They were so nice, they asked me a lot of questions to ensure they were meeting my expectations and I left my home feeling comfortable, which was one of the most important qualities in a cleaning service for me. She has also said that the same two employees will be the only two sent to my house each time, which is also a plus. Ana even followed up a few days later to see if I was happy with the work! I look forward to working with Ana's Cleaning in the future. Reliable, honest, and does a great job! Recommended!!!"

G.O.R Construction did a fabulous job in my kitchen. I hired Gerardo to install 3" x 6" subway tiles from the countertop to the ceiling. It looks spectacular!!! He and his associate Geronimo also installed some floating shelves and pendant lights. Our kitchen has been transformed. We have received many compliments from friends and family. Gerardo and Geronimo are hard workers who take pride in what they do. Geronimo installed most of the tile with Gerardo making cuts. Geronimo is a true craftsman when working with tile. All tiles and grout lines line up perfectly. G.O.R Construction did a flawless job. I would highly recommend their services and plan on using them again.

Enrique just finished a large tile and slate job for us. The floors included three large rooms where the pinwheel slate pattern had to visually flow seamlessly between rooms and then up two walls all the way to the ceiling. The bathroom floor slopes to a linear drain. Enrique waterproofed the walls and floor and got our shower pan inspection passed by the city inspectors. The design required tile adjacent to millwork, a tub deck, a shower bench, a shampoo niche, inset mirrors, and window and door surrounds. Every minute detail is magnificent. The project posed every advanced design challenge and Enrique of Horizon Tile accomplished them with masterful skill. His suggestions made the project even more beautiful than we could have envisioned. The project was finished on time and on budget. I wish I could post some photos here for you to see. Beautiful work!

I hired Marge for biweekly cleaning over the past year. She does an extraordinary job (especially in the most difficulty spots, like bathroom tiles). She's very responsible and trustworthy. I've worked with a number of house cleaners over the past few years, and Marge is by far the best cleaner I've hired.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
