Matt did wonderful work around our house. He sealed up some exposed insulation on the underside of our house's addition with plywood and also helped reposition and hook up our washer/dryer in a more convenient location. Matt is a great communicator and the quality of his work is excellent.

One of the first things Gleo told me was that he had a regular job and would be able to work on weekends. He did two jobs for me at a rental. One was installing a medicine cabinet and interior lock. He did not complete repair of drywall repair by the cabinet. The other job was installation of a security door. He installed the medicine cabinet, lock and security door in a good manner. He did not complete an addition to the bottom of the security door. He was pleasant, on time, cleaned up well, and cooperative but for the incomplete items. I wanted him to paint a bath in S.F. at another rental but, he did not give me an estimate (perhaps too far away). Manelis Properties

Vyron did a great job installing a new back door for us. We had a few issues with the door that were not his fault (the supplier was at fault!) and he did everything he could to fix the issues. We are happy with the work he did.

Mike gave us a great price to repair and texture our drywall. He even installed the new base board. His whole team was very professional. They were able to repair an oops with our base so well that we can't tell where the crack was. I'm planning on having them back when we paint our master bedroom

We used Jasmin's services for a drywall and paint job, to redo a bedroom ceiling drywall and crown moldings, and repaint all the room - they did a fantastic job: timely, very high quality and fair price. Second time I employ them and I intend to continue doing so!

We had some mold on the drywall in three bathrooms in our house due to poor construction/materials from the builder. Carlos came out and gave us a free estimate/inspection. The quote was pretty fairly priced. In two of the bathrooms, they had to cut out the wall and treat it then put up sheetrock, drywall, texture, and paint. The work took about a week, so we left a key in the lockbox for them. Carlos did a great job of keeping me informed on their work and when they arrived and left the house. The guys were all very respectful and courteous. The work itself was perfect. If you looked, you would have no clue that they cut a few feet out of the walls and replaced it. I definitely recommend their service to anyone who is looking for quality work from some friendly guys.

Drywall repairs to walls and ceiling. They took pride in their work product and seemed to strive for perfection. Somewhat pricey but well worth the fee.

This was a great hire. We needed an attic cleaned of rodent droppings and reblown with new insulation. Not only they came through in our budget and met our time line they found five access points and sealed our attic. The insulation is treated with orange oil to prevent spiders and such as well. Thanks again for an outstanding job well done. Makes me wonder why other companies do not offer to seal the attics?

We had an old shed converted into an office. Given the rough condition of the paneling, floor, insulation, etc. I think Rick's crews did a good job.

I recently moved into my new home that needed minor repairs. I heard of Art from a neighbor of mine who got his new light fixtures installed by him. He presented himself in a professional way with ideas and knowledge of what my house needed. With few drywall repairs and new paint to most bedrooms he was always on schedule. He also helped assemble my ikea furniture and mount my tvs in the bedrooms. He was always on time and did way more than he was asked. It seems there isn't a thing he can't do. He is a talented young man with a very fare prices. I would hire him again when I find more work around the house.

Luis and his team were great. He came on time, was very courteous, and his quote was the best we got of 3 other companies (by far). The best part was he was able to get a crew to do the insulation install the very next day. His crew made sure to use drop cloths and taped off my entire house. Five hours later I have cleaned and rodent sealed attic full of insulation. I am excited to now enjoy summer in my house with insulation, so far this summer has been brutal.

The photos below tell you all you need to know. My wife and I had a corner where the washer/dryer used to be, and we needed someone to remove the gas line, remove the hot and cold water lines, remove the drain line, re-run the vent line, move the electrical lines, and then drywall and paint so that the brand-new wall blended seamlessly into the room. Finding one person who has all those skills is not easy, and Justin did a great job. Very skilled guy, literally a "Jack of all Trades", and a delight to have in our home. Highly recommended in every way.

Got a great quote from Jay. He explained the process and gave a very competitive quote. The crew came in and replaced the insulation in ~5-6hrs. There were some nails which came down slightly from the studs as part of the work, but they were fixed promptly and they made sure to match the rest of the ceiling perfectly. Highly recommend them for service!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
