Besides the items listed above would be patience. Had to wait for insurance appraiser approval and still respond quickly once the quotes were approved.

Our small 8'x10' backyard accessory structure / shed was sited a bit too high and too close to the property line to meet building code setback requirements. We hired GCON to move it forward 1 ft and down a few inches, using the shed's existing concrete block piers. Dennis and his office were responsive and initial communication was promising. After site survey his additional suggestions to improve drainage made sense, the quote was detailed and scope of work was clear. The job appeared to be arduous, but straightforward. Unfortunately, the crew made several poor choices in how they proceeded. Work steps were done in illogical order, which resulted in unnecessary complications. Work had to be undone and then re-done; for example the french drain around the structure was dug first, before the shed was moved, which made the move much more complicated as there was now loose drain rock filled trench and dirt piles around. It also resulted in the french drain getting partially re-filled and dug up again, as it was not in exactly the right location. Accurate measurements were not taken first; reference stakes and/or lines were not set until I did it. This was puzzling to us, but in the first few days we hesitated to step in, as despite having been around construction sites, we expected the licensed general contractor to manage the job site and his crew. There was an incident where the shed fell off its temporary support blocks, luckily nobody was hurt and the shed didn't suffer permanent damage. After the incident, we lost confidence and I took vacation days off work to directly supervise each remaining step. In the end, even though it took much longer (10 days instead of the estimated 3), the work is now complete, and the shed is in the new, correct location. The crew did work very hard and was on-site every day at agreed upon hours. Despite the issues we encountered, the communication with Dennis and his office remained always respectful and punctual. This was a difficult review to write and the star system certainly doesn't capture my full emotions (which would lean toward 1 or 2 star review), but I feel this gives a fair representation of both the positives and the negatives.

GCON's reply
Correcting another contractors mistake is always a difficult situation. While the job scope seemed simple and straightforward, it was most definitely not easy. Buried in the ground from a former homeowner, we assume, was old fence debris, including the concrete from the posts. To add to that, there were river rocks buried in the ground next to the French Drain, And in the conduit trench, causing soil to collapse which resulted in the leaning shed mentioned in the review. My guess is that the former installation crew knew of these obstacles, Misplaced it, and never returned to correct it. It seemed to me that the soil conditions would have been communicated to the homeowners at some point. The crew worked tirelessly, myself included, in the extreme heat to excavate and get the shed moved, all while being micromanaged the entire time, and the homeowners being very disrespectful to my crew. Moving a shed Like this is not an “out of the box” job scope for any contractor, except the manufacturer, of course. we picked up the job because we are waiting on permits on several large remodels. There is no best practice and we proceeded as best we could amidst very poor soil conditions. The issues we had were compounded by the homeowners, both husband and wife, shouting and cursing at myself and the crew with each and every set back due to the conditions. It was pretty unbearable. I am a foundation specialist, and had I known about the condition of the soil (it was not obvious upon inspection) , I would never have proceeded with this methodology, in light of the soil being the unknown variable and a huge complication. I would have recommended we use push piers To Stabilize on the bedrock, and keep the shed stable, literally forever. By the time I realized the mess we were in, I was just resolute to get the job done, and get my crew out of this hostile, confrontational situation. For example, One morning, my crew arrived before I did, and the homeowner asked “where is your babysitter?” I have never seen this level of blatant disrespect. In the midst of all the hostility toward Minorities and protests in the news, I found it a very poor decision in behavior and a lack of restraint. Long story short, we moved the shed, it’s perfectly placed, level, no damage. The electrical is done, awaiting inspection. The job site was clean, no debris. In all my years in construction, I have never had an accident or injury to anyone on my crew. To wrap it up, the poor review on moving a shed, a very rare request, is unfortunate, but I will use the experience in the future should I come across a similar situation. And while I am disappointed in the homeowners perspective and demeanor towards my team, this is no reflection on my professionalism and competence in building, structural repair, and project management. Thank you for reading my response. Best, Dennis Gohnert

Dennis and his son helped retile my front porch which I had already butchered. They not only went to buy all the materials after assessing but gave recommendations as to what would look best. Great work and will definitely use them again!

The project was to construct a Pavilion in the backyard. I was quoted 25K. I ordered lumber for 3500$ and got it delivered. Made some corrections in his quote, where the numbers were not making sense, ( like fixing a fan and lights 1800$). I told him we have gap of 4000$ have look and let me know how we address it. He said he need to pick the truck for the job and will be back. The lumber is in front of the house and he left. Have been trying to reach him for last 4 hours, would have called 10+ times and left 5+ voice messages. Very very unprofessional. I can’t believe it. Just leaving this review so that others don’t have to go through it.

GCON's reply
I am sorry you feel that way but it’s definitely not common practice for customers to attempt to renegotiate contract terms and pricing at the start of the project. Once the contract is signed and the terms agreed upon it’s not open for discussion especially when there’s multiple crew members on site and work is to begin. All the negotiations should have been done before you signed the contract and materials were ordered. In the future I would recommend having all negotiations completed before signing the contract. It could be mistakenly looked at as you trying to take advantage of the situation. I wish you all the best.
