FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Basic Blog Setup - $600; Basic Website Setup - $1000 (includes home page, 4 pages of content + contact page); Basic Email Blast Deployment - $400; Basic Landing Page Deployment - $650; prices listed do not include the cost of design. for work beyond this scope: Web development is billed at $125/hr.; Graphic design is billed at $75/hr.; I bill only for time worked and I do my very best to keep things on-budget. I will ultimately give a fair industry-relevant price for a project.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do continual surveying of web technology and look out for new methods, approaches, in-page effects and features that are broken by the many talented and successful web firms, developers + designers, in addition to researching new ways to build applications and render web pages. If there is a new technology that needs learning, I am already taking a look at what sets it apart from anything else already in use. For the most part, with web technology, things are fairly stable with the prevailing LAMP architectures found from near every web host. Things start to change if clients want high performance for large volumes of simultaneous visitors (ie. 10K users on a site at once), and I am always studying up on the most efficient methods required to step into this realm.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I discovered desktop publishing in 1989 and have since been transfixed by the ability to self-create content. A residency at the Silicon Valley's Anza Group taught me the ins and outs of the printing trade, by which I ventured into freelance work as a Graphic Artist. A serious study at the California Institute of the Arts in Music Technology for my 2005 BFA candidacy introduced me to computer programming, and the two disciplines of design and programming have seamlessly meshed ever since. My 2008 MFA candidacy, also at the California Institute of the Arts, taught me how to stand behind my work.
