Alex Ruiz is the owner and master craftsman of Amaya Furniture located in Hayward, California. (formerly known as SVA Furniture) Born in San Vicente, El Salvador, Ruiz learned from an early age the essentials of cabinet making and upholstery. For more than a decade he has specialized in the restoration and upholstery of classic mid-century furniture by such designers as Knoll, Eames, Wegner, Cherner, and LeCorbusier. But Ruiz is equally proud of the work he’s done with modest furniture pieces, such as a client who had an ordinary wing chair that belonged to his grandmother. Amaya Furniture also works with high-end commercial clients such as hotels and restaurants, including the Ritz Carlton, the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel, the Four Seasons, Hilton Hotels, and Hyatt Hotels. By special appointment, Amaya is also able to offer bespoke services such as custom manufacturing and delicate refinishing projects.
