Introduction: I am a credentialed Special Education teacher. My current teaching credential is valid until 2023, was renewed in 2018 and first obtained in 2011. I worked in Oakland Unified School district for almost 10 years.
The last 4 years I ran a Reading Clinic Special Day Class for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities and then I assisted the clinic with selecting candidates from all over Oakland to attend the Clinic, as I was just one of many clinicians delivering services to students.
I received numerous hours of training and was closely supervised to assure I was delivering the best services to students. In 2015 I had my first child, then another in 2017 and then one more in 2019 and at this point I decided to stop working and dedicate myself to my three beautiful boys.
I started offering Reading Intervention Services as I saw there was an opportunity to change the lives of others in a one to one setting while still having time to focus on my own children.
I find that many of the students that come to me are general education students in need of a good intervention program that works. I work on phonics, fluency, sight words, comprehension, reading words in context and in isolation. I meet students where they are in their reading journey and work them up to multiple syllable words and to grade level reading.

I can’t speak highly enough about Mrs. A. Initially I budgeted less but after reading about her experience and speaking with her, I knew she was the perfect fit. Her ways are so gentle and effective. She has a multi sensory approach that really makes learning far more engaging. When I chose to focus on child led homeschool curriculum, reading was not something she expressed interest and when she finally (7 y/o) did, I realized this was beyond my level of capacity. I didn’t have the patience or tools. Amazingly I scored on the Internet lottery and found mrs. A. She is a dream come true and my daughter has made such excellent progress!!don’t hesitate and make that call to her!!you won’t regret it.

At the start of second grade my daughter couldn't read even the most basic early reader. Worse, she didn't want to practice. She was starting to hate school and think of herself as a bad student. Thank goodness we found Ms. Monica. My daughter went from reading in the 8th percentile on the Renaissance Tests to the 94th percentile at the start of third grade and now loves school again and thinks of herself as a good student.
Thank goodness for Ms.Monica and her evidence-based structured phonics instruction and making it fun. In each session they are super busy using multiple approaches to improve my daughter's ability to decide and read fluently. I'll be forever grateful we pulled my daughter from her public school's ineffective "Learning Academy" every day for an hour after school where they just did round robin reading and switched to Ms. Monica for an hour a week.

Our child has been working with Monica for about 6 months, not including a break over summer. Within the first 3 months our child advanced nearly an entire grade level in reading. Given that he was behind a grade level this was astounding. Phonics based instruction was clearly what our child was missing from their school education. Once Monica gave him that foundation and he learned all the rules he gained confidence and advanced rapidly. He loves working with her. She's very kind and supportive. A wonderful educator. I wish every educator in our district had her knowledge, passion and temperament to teach literacy to young children.

Since having her son say Monica his rating has improved significantly! A lot of the foundational work as what has been most important in his success. We to practice with him often outside of tutoring but it is all that she has taught him in tutoring that has helped him succeed!

I cannot begin to express how happy I am to have met Mrs. Monica. My kindergarten has a severe speech delay and was struggling with blending his words. I worried that with his speech delay and his struggles with blending he would fall behind in first grade. In just a few sessions to my surprise he was blending!!!!! There is no way I could teach the strategies Mrs. Monica is teaching him. The patience and knowledge she has in teaching is what my son needed. She makes my son so comfortable and excited for his weekly sessions with her.
To watch my son learn and understand the rules of reading brings tears to my eyes! To watch them work together allows me to see that my son is so capable and just needed one on one attention that his school just can not offer. Mrs. Monica has been a godsent to our family.
