I have spent most of my career in Mathematics Education, beginning in 2012 as a High School Teacher where I taught Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus and Calculus.
At AJ Tutoring, I spent four years teaching Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, BC Calculus and Multivariate Calculus. I focused on a student-centered approach, allowing students to try different problem-solving strategies, and then exploring the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
I always begin the exploration of new ideas with a conversational but respectful teaching style, sympathizing appropriately with the challenges students faced inside and outside of the classroom. I provide timely, relevant and constructive feedback in support of each student's learning. I utilize student reflections to strengthen connections with learners—and as a means to provide them with more agency to drive their own development. Finally, I integrate test-taking and time management strategies into all of my lessons to help students develop successful habits of learning.
My experiences as an educator have taught me the importance of listening carefully to feedback from both my students and from their parents. Nothing makes me happier than helping students achieve results in math they didn't think were possible!
