Introduction: Campbell's Jazz Soup is a Marin County based band that plays a fun blend of 1920s, 30's, 40's, and 50's jazz and swing at events, parties, and receptions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Leader Brian Campbell serves up a tasty stew of hot clarinet, swinging saxophone, and hearty vocals. Mixed in to provide a feast for the ears is bluesy guitar and driving string bass. We play everything from mellow background jazz to upbeat danceable swing. The band can perform with up to seven members by including trumpet, piano, drums, and/or trombone. Our most popular sizes are the trio (composed of sax/clarinet/vocals, guitar, and bass), the quintet (add trumpet and piano or drums to the trio), and the sextet (add trumpet, piano, and drums to the trio). If you want to dance, we highly recommend hiring our quintet or sextet. For close to two decades, we've played many events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including weddings, festivals, parties, and corporate affairs. Brian and his band were a fantastic choice for our wedding! Brian was quick to communicate with me all the way along. The website is clear and contains snips of the songs so it was easy to make my set list. Although not everyone knows how to swing dance, anyone who wants to boogie can get down with the band. They adapted to the energy level of the crowd, they played hits that everyone would recognize, and they were totally professional! We had a reception of around 150 people and the dance floor was going the whole time! They also were very kind and let my brother in law use their equipment to sing us a song he wrote. What a blast! I would recommend this band to anyone who wants a smooth, fun loving, and professional experience. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts! -Maia and Jed

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I'm the leader, Brian Campbell, and initially I like to chat on the phone with the customer to introduce myself and to go over what the customer is looking for, the details of the event, and the process for hiring our band. Then usually after our first phone conversation we can conduct any further business over email until the event.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

We play for any customer who wants live jazz and swing at their party, corporate function, wedding, festival, or any other event.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you're interested in hiring us we would greatly appreciate it if you can provide us the following info so we can give you correct rate info: 1. Date, time, and location of the event. 2. The number of hours you want the band to play. 3. The number of musicians you are interested in. Our band can vary from 3 to 7 musicians. Please see our description or website for more info. 4. The style of music you are interested in. We can generally play jazz, swing, light Latin (like Brazilian bossa nova, etc.), and Dixieland. 5. Whether the band will play indoors or outdoors. 6. The size of the venue (square footage) and how many guests will be attending. This is so we can determine the sound equipment that would be needed. Thanks.
