I was a fan of Lindsey's syndicated column well before I knew she was inciteful about dogs. Then I saw her on a cover of a magazine one day, along with her two dogs, and the story she wrote was really funny, but also really smart, about dog behavior, and it's similarities to human behavior. My only complaint about Lindsey and dog training, is that she has very limited availability, and will only take on a few dogs that people are always begging her to take on. But if she does, it's so great.
I have been involved with showing and breeding dogs, along with competition in herding for 30+ years. I have owned several different breeds over the years and have always done my own training. I decided to adopt a pit bull puppy that I had been fostering. She was only a few months old, and was scared of everything. I thought she would eventually grow out of it, but she didn't. I tried everything I could think of, but her fear continued to get worse, to the point of her not wanting to go outside. I employed Kim from The Trained Canine to help. What Kim was able to do with my girl was amazing! She is now a happy and confident, carefree dog, with no more fear, but the best part is that Kim showed me how to work with my dog in such a way that she 100% engaged with me, and the bond I now have with my dog is like no other. Kim made the training fun for all of us. Kim's knowledge and diversity in dog training and behavior modification are 2nd to none. I would highly recommend Kim for any type of dog training.
Barb did a great job talking about her philosophy and then showing us as well. She really got to know what we really wanted to accomplish and went the extra mile with some guidance and research to ensure that we understood our role in training Ernie. And she made it fun for all of us. At the end of our session Barb let us know that she is our trainer for life and that is truly invaluable.
I requested a dog trainer through thumbtack and within minutes , I received quotes. The dog trainer I have now has done a great job and is very professional in her work.
Nina is great with all kinds of animals! She is very patient and compassionate to all furry creatures and treats them as if they are her own. She is also great with training animals and giving them more than enough love, which is most important!
We loved Sophia! She is very personable and we knew Hank was in great hands while he was boarded and trained. We especially found the follow-up lessons to be beneficial in helping us put his new skills to use and practice commands. We are sad that Sophia is moving, but thankful for all the help she has provided us and our dog Hank!
Karen at My Best Friend Obedience is awesome. My dog is very wild around other dogs and taking him for walks isn't fun. Since I've had 1 training session with Karen I've been able to calm him down before our walks and he's more obedient. The techniques she taught me have gone a long way with him. I can't wait until our next training session. I would recommend My Best Friend Obedience to everybody because they are trainers with compassion and understanding. Thank you for helping me and my dog enjoy our daily walks. This is something that we've been wanting for awhile and I'm so glad I found you on Thumbtack.
We have 2 dog and 1 started being aggressive toward the other. Within a few days of contact Stephani came over and reviewed our dogs and our situation, came up with a plan, got my husband on board with the training (THAT was a miracle!) and started training us how to handle our dogs better. She's very thorough and has a very behavioral approach (dog whisperer-ish) which we really connected with. We look forward to our learning sessions, Thanks Stephani!
My dog Dixie is a little challenge. Within a week my dog went from lunging at food when dropped, to completely ignoring dropped food. Also to leaving me alone while I am eating. While we are still working through some thing with Jessica, the improvements I have seen are amazing. Dixie loves seeing Jessica and looks forward to our training sessions. She has improved the relationship between Dixie and I and we look forward to continuing our training.
Karen is an amazing instructor who can immediately determine what each team's weaknesses are while also making use of the strengths. Her approach is positive and constructive with the dog's well-being always in mind. Dinah and I have learned so much in her classes, but have truly enjoyed them too. She has given me the confidence to start competing soon - I can't wait!
Tami is an incredible trainer and problem solver. She makes sure any problems you might have with your critter are addressed. My experience with her has been excellent. When training is over should a new problem arise, Tami is right there for you. She came to my house to help with a problem I was having with my dog. Needless to say, she solved the problem. You can not go wrong with letting Tami and your critters meet, learn and have fun.

Our beginning class teaches beginning dog obedience and dog manners. The follow up classes works to advance the dog in obedience skills and then introduces the dog to beginning skills for such dog sports as rally obedience, therapy dog work, agility, flyball and formal obedience. We have some basic teaching methods, but realize that all dogs are different and sometimes need to be taught in different ways, so we adapt the method to the dog. I have been a school teacher for over 30 years, and also have taught and competed in a variety of dog sports and activities for over 30 years. We believe in happy, well behaved dogs and having fun in class. Come join us! See our website for times and locations.

There is no one in this area who comes close to having my level of education or experience. I have a graduate degree that focused on zoology and animal learning, plus numerous training certifications that I maintain by continued practice of current training methods and continuing education. I have worked in a variety of environments including: veterinary clinics, federal government, Colorado and California state governments, behavior department at the University of California, and animal shelters where I worked with thousands of dogs. Since 2005 I have mentored countless dog trainers and offer lectures for dog trainers to earn their continuing education credits. In summary, I teach other teachers. My methods use effective reinforcement techniques, (not archaic punishment techniques from 20-100 years ago) and are in-line with leaders of the field from behavior departments in universities, veterinary behaviorists, applied animal behaviorist, and top-notch humane societies around the nation.
I've been training dogs and their owners since 2003. Walking and day care services are also available. I've been the owner/operator of Rancho Notorious Dog Rescue from 2003 to 2013.
