Hired Lopez painting to paint my dads home - living room, dining room, hallway and bedroom were painted. Neri and team did an awesome job!!! They arrived early, and finished on time. All was on budget. Lopez painting knows their craft - they're excellent painters. I highly recommend them, and plan to hire them for future paint jobs.

My experience with Fredy and his painters was great. Fredy is incredibly professional and responsible. He was available and responsive via text to confirm the work and communicate leading up to and during the work being done. He gave me the best quote for the work, and the job was completed on time. I was clear that I didn't need the walls repaired to perfection or sanded, etc. So the quality of the job reflects that - some spots were certainly repaired, and those were done well. There is one section of one of the rooms that doesn't look like it got a second coat of paint. There was also a small change based on a miscommunication -I needed 4 metal plates (about 8" by 3 feet long each) that were mounted to the wall also painted over. Initially, they were taped and not painted, so the guys had to rush in the last 3 hours or so to get them done and, understandably, the end product looks a bit sloppy. Fredy also helped me with a small spot on the front of the building that was marked with graffiti, which wasn't included in the original job. He went out of his way to match the paint himself and paint over the spot, and I appreciate so much the "above and beyond" effort. However, the color didn't end up matching so the front of our building is now 2-tone : / I was unable to be around during much of the work, so I basically just trusted the process and walked away. The guys were super trustworthy too, which is so important to me. With regards to the quality of the work, I am about 90% satisfied and would use them again for sure. I would just be more present next time to help sort out and manage the small things as they come up. Thank you Fredy!

Jarrod was quick to come to the rescue when my originally hired painters fell through. He painted my entire apartment for a great flat rate price, up front and no hidden costs. We discussed what I needed, he recommended the paint and went to work getting it finished. Wish I would have found him first, would have saved me time and trouble.

We hired Excel Construction to do a complete kitchen remodeling and enlarge the existing space by expanding the walls several feet to the patio area. The new kitchen included the installation of the upper and lower cabinets, new paint, new backsplash, marble counter top, LED lighting and new dishwasher, stove and range. Eyal, the project manager and Revital (the lady that we worked with in regards to all the documents, payments and permits) from the office who did an outstanding job helping us. During the work, we clearly noticed that they were always made sure that the costs will remain the same and won’t pass the budget that was set at first and they made sure the job was done accurately. All the sub-contractors that they employed for our house (carpenters, electricians, painters etc.) were outstanding, qualified and experienced. We were very fascinated that our project Eyal was able to complete the entire kitchen few days earlier than he promised us. We were always given a personal attention by Eyal, who was very good in communication and organized and by Revital. The new kitchen looks perfect and very useful and we strongly recommend them and we will hire them again for any remodeling project we may have.

First time ever hiring a painter. I got quotes from over 15 painters and BZ Pro was at the low end of the prices I was quoted for. Let it be known, you get a professional painter, who goes by the name Zoltan, for much lower than most of the other painters. I had a large master bedroom painted a specific color (I used Dunn Edwards paint) and Zoltan painted the room to my satisfaction. He even offered to paint additional sections over the course of the day. He was punctual and straight to the point and worked hard all day. Without hesitation I will be using Zoltan again for any paint job in the future. Thank you Zoltan.

Ramirez exceeded my expectations. I accidentally spilled acetone on our wood table and ruined the finish on one of the leafs. I knew I didn't have the skills to fix it myself, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money on it either. I reached out to a few pros via Thumbtack and Task Rabbit. Ramirez was the first to respond and offered to come over and give an estimate for free. He came that same day, explained exactly what he would do and how long it would take, and gave the best price by a long-shot. When it came to be the day of our service, he showed up on time and got to work. He was very polite, non-intrusive, and task-oriented, so I felt comfortable having him work in the back when I was the only one home. He sanded the damaged leaf and lightly sanded the other leaves to make sure the table was even. He had brought a color that he thought would work but, after matching it to the undamaged parts of the table, he decided to go and purchase a better match. The end result made the table look brand new. He did a fantastic job and was sure to give me a few pointers before he left (i.e. how long I should wait before setting anything on the table). On his way out, I asked him how much it would cost to have him come back and repair some damaged stucco on the exterior of the house. (We had family over and one of them clipped the corner of the house with their car, which damaged the stucco and paint.) He said that it was an easy fix, got his tools, and did it before he left for free. He even helped me find the paint in the garage since I wasn't quite sure which one it was. Great service. Great work. I'd use him again and recommend him without hesitation. Thanks, Ramirez!!!

Hiring Johnny has been the best decision I've ever made, in the past I've had hired many other painters who gave me cheap price but at the end I was very disappointed for their work was a terrible mess. Trusting Johnny with my home painting project is a decision I can make all over again, his price was extremely reasonable and his work is more than perfect. I am very happy to have my house painted the way he did, his expertise advise helped me through choosing the colors and picking the right paint. Johnny will now be my number one painter for all my upcoming projects, besides painting he knows carpentry, he fixed my bathroom door and medicine cabinet! I am very satisfied. If anyone thinks in painting call Johnny don't hesitate give him a call and he will make wonders with any project. Thank you Johnny -Maria Elena

Victor offered the lowest bid for the interior + exterior painting jobs I needed done, and he had great reviews, so I went with him and was very pleased with the result! There were a couple places I asked him to touch up before he was finished, and the paint job could have been a bit neater (not sharp edges near the trim and a couple drip marks here and there but nothing that noticeable), but overall the job was very good, and his work is truly an excellent value. He was super responsive and reliable and I would choose him again for future jobs!

Jeanine is outstanding! She painted a few murals in my home that are absolutely stunning. She was wonderful to work with too. From the beginning, Jeanine listened to my needs, came up with smart solutions, and kept me involved in the process the whole time. There were no surprises on the end. I love Jeanine's style and her professional manner. I would recommend Jeanine to anyone looking for a talented, easy-to-work with, honest, hard-working, good-listening public, residential or commercial muralist.

CSJM did a fabulous job with the drywall and painting project! Carlos was very responsive, and maintained a high level of professionalism throughout the project. I worked with Carlos from afar, since this is a rental property. Carlos kept me informed during the project, and provided photo updates. I highly recommend CSJM painting and repair!

John is very friendly, but courteous. He was from the beginning honest about the work and guaranteed his work. When other painters came to estimate, they tried to paint some walls which to John's opinion is necessary, and to charge higher. John did superb job to paint some walls and touch up most of walls. The house looked so new and bright. Thanks for his honesty and his superb job.

Nick was hired to paint two small bathrooms. And the job came out great. There was some patchwork involved as well and considering the crummy plaster walls he had to deal with, it came out excellent. He was prompt and professional. He backed his work up with a 1 year warranty. I was really happy with everything overall.

If you are looking for an muralist or a faux artist - Jeff is your "go to guy"!! His portfolio of murals is incredible! I was quoted from other faux artists outrageous prices and he is reasonable for his faux work. He also did an oil painting repair for tears in an oil painting and I am very happy. He is prompt, hard working and enjoyable to be around while he is working. I highly recommend him for murals or faux artist -- he can do it all and anything!

We had 3 bathrooms remodeled by hillstar construction, which included 2 complete remodels (master bath and Jack/Jill) and 1 minor updating of guest bath. This is our first remodeling experience and lior and his crew made every effort to accommodate our needs and requests. We relied on lior advise for details and very happy of the outcome. lior responded promptly and communicated well, and his attention to details was really good. We also noticed that hillstar construction used higher end product than other contractors when we compared the estimates and asked specific questions. They installed frameless glass showers and completely replaced floors on two bathroom, changed countertops to quartz replaced we actually had to change painter (from different paint company) to lior crew as we did not like the original work. lior crew completely removed wall paper before painting, which original paint person could not do. Major part of renovation was completed less than 2 weeks, just couple of hours for installing glass showers later and some paint work due to change of painter along the way. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the quality of the work done and the outcome. Also, LIOR went beyond as a contractor as to helping us manage the house while we were away during renovation, and it is very much appreciated. Bottom line, he can really be trusted for the quality of work he provides.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
