Learning with me is so much more than getting a song and being directed on how to play it. Learn how to read, the technique to play, and the feeling of each genre of music. Can you rise to the challenge? Throughout the year I assign community challenges that can be tailored to each ability level. Learn about performance and recording as we perform for the camera or by audio to share with the music community. Understand the theory of Music better by practicing how to write your own short songs. Learn how to improvise your own melodies in order to express yourself musically. Check out the blog for tips and tricks. Learn in a fun way with interactive and immersive games as well as worksheets. Each lesson is tailor made for YOU and I will make sure that you understand and move at a pace that is just right. When you work with me you get to tap into all the experience I've gained from playing with world renowned artists, with large groups and small, in my own personal career that is still going, and from my time at Berklee College of Music. Even if you don't want to make music your career, learning how to love music and engage it in your life is plenty good reason to learn how to make the most of what you can do.
Seeing the neurons connect and seeing the student truly understand a concept. Helping my student discover and understand is the best feeling. But most of all, I just love music so being able to share that with another musician, no matter their ability, makes me love it every day.

When I decided to look for a piano teacher in March of 2024, I realized how out of my depth I was. I'm not completely new to music, but had never touched a piano up until this point and was unsure of where to even begin. After some searching I settled on Tai Cheri. I had no idea just how amazing a choice I made, but over the course of the next year it became apparent that I was in good hands.
Tai is an incredible teacher, able to take me from having absolutely no finger or hand independence to what I feel is a decently intermediate player. I'm now able to pick up pieces I love with some effort and I know how to work through them methodically thanks to the knowledge and lessons she's imparted upon me. She's able to guide you with good practice advice, appropriate level pieces for your current skill, and help you with the trickier parts of anything you're working on. She's always available to answer questions you have on the things you're working on and is an absolute treasure trove of musical knowledge and theory. My only regret is that I didn't start taking lessons from her sooner. Make no mistake, if you're willing to put the work in, Tai Cheri will absolutely take you to greater heights. I will refer all of my friends to her moving forward.

My wife and I are taking lessons at the same time. She’s playing the violin and I’m playing the cello. Tai is teaching us both at the same time and it’s going fantastic. Neither of us has played on many many years and Tai is keeping us on the right track.
Tai’s lessons are great and she’s such a great teacher. Can’t go wrong choosing Tai as your teacher. You won’t be disappointed.

Tai has the unique ability to make something that is very complicated (piano), and design the lessons for a child so that, they are not only absorbing the material but, they are excited and enthusiastic to continue. After only 8 months, my daughter is writing pieces of her own music and playing at a level that I did not think was possible in this amount of time. I would recommend Tai for anyone that wished to take music lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know my student's musical likes as well as non-musical pastimes so that I can relate the lessons better to my student. I like to get to the point where we can laugh and find common ground. I like to also learn how my student best learns so that we can progress through the levels of music at a rate best accustomed to them. All in all I like to make sure we can have fun and learn how to play in the best possible way.
