Matthew helped me with a leak I had in my basement. Working with him was a pleasure. He's courteous, prompt, thorough and just generally a nice guy. Already planning our next project with him.
I was referred to Renato at Hilux Maintenance by a colleague at work. I have to say that it was probably the best experience I've had working with any contractor. Renato helped me convert an ugly room in my basement to an inviting and functional media room. The job included a lot of carpentry work to build custom cabinets, wall paneling, crown molding, base boards, installing electric outlets, installing an electric fireplace, installing a barn door. I wish I could attach pictures to this review to show off the finished product, it was that good. The best part about working with Renato, is that he is honest, hardworking, very good at his trade, detail oriented. Its really hard to find all these qualities in a contractor these days. When Im ready to finish the rest of my basement, he will be the first guy Ill call.
We couldn't be more pleased with Damon and his work. He arrived on time and finished the project on time. We will be definitely recommending him and using his work in the future.
I hired Jasper from My Apartment Is Better Than Yours. I think they did a terrific job at a very reasonable price. I'm really pleased that I decided to go with them. I had a number of unusual carpentry tasks to complete when I moved to my new place. The windows were old and the wood was irregular and moldy, so the wood around the antique glass panels needed to be replaced. I was told those windows hadn't been opened in 40 years, but now they work perfectly and you'd never know the wood wasn't original. Also, several doorways lacked doors when I moved in, and were unusual rounded shapes cut into the stucco without doorframes. Jasper was able to make me custom doors with antique iron-wrought handles, and they look awesome. I also needed threshholds worked on, cabinets put up, new benches made for my roof deck, a custom projector and screen put in, antique chandeliers installed, a lock repaired... and I'm probably forgetting one or two things. They are in the process of putting the finishing touches on my humidor (they had to build me custom legs for it), and it's going to look spectacular. Anyway, they knocked it all out of the park. They were prompt and clean and didn't cause much of a disturbance despite all the work they were doing. They'll be my go-to for anything I need done in the future. I definitely recommend them.
I had a very loud, annoying, and squeaky bathroom floor. Just bought new floors and needed a repair right away so that we could install the new floor. Tom called us back while he was still on vacation and came our right away. Gave me a great price and did a great job! He has a great attitude, honest personality, and we will use him again.
Angel and his crew made two pillars and four below-ground concrete pylons as footing for a 4-legged gazebo to straddle a circular pavilion in my backyard. His crew also poured a 7’ x 2’ concrete slab in our side yard to function as a grill parking spot. Angel had car trouble the first day, which delayed the start of work to two days later than we had agreed on. His crew spread the work over three evenings, delaying another crew's start date for assembly of the gazebo by two days. The posted rate for Angel's work was $45/hour. When the work was finished, Angel presented me with a bill that would have charged $40 an hour for each of his crew's 5 laborers. Angel may be an engineer worth $45 an hour, but someone digging a hole for concrete does not earn $40 an hour, so we renegotiated. Angel received $45/hour, and each of his workers earned $20/hour. We declined to pay for hours when multiple workers were present, but only one of them was working, since the others were just waiting for Angel to arrive. In addition to wages and materials, we paid $150 for gas. Angel would have spent less on gas, if the work had been concentrated into fewer days, which I would have preferred. The end result is: the anchors are level. The two front pillars have air pockets as large as 0.5" h x 2.5" in the sides, indicating the cement wasn’t packed down well. (I will use filler to get a smooth surface, after which paint will be necessary to hide the filler.) The work started late, was spread over too many days, and the concrete pillars should not have the air pockets they have. On the up side, I appreciated how clean the worksite was when Angel finished. He also gave me a few expert answers to questions I had about other potential concrete projects. Angel is polite and knowledgeable. Even so, it is important to be very specific with your timeline, cost expectations, and aesthetics up front.
We had Ryan over yesterday to repair 3 interior doors in a very old and actually historic San Franciscan Victorian house. In addition to the three interior doors, Ryan painted the front door which had also just been replaced. His attention to detail was great, there were constant adjustments to make sure everything fit, latched, matched, didn't drag, looked great, etc. His response was prompt, he replied almost immediately and was available to start the very next day. He came prepared for the job, from start to finish. Ryan is very up front and fair in terms of compensation. You will have zero issue with the transparency and fairness of his bids. It should also be noted that this is a very old building. The areas where the door hinges connected to the wall/door frame were extremely dilapidated, the wood was old and and over drilled. It was like putty. But Ryan rocked it. Not only did Ryan pay close attention to the style of the Victorian building and matched the details perfectly, his finished product was seamless. You can't even tell that work had been done. There wasn't even dust on the floor. It was legit, honest good work. 100% recommend.
Yursta Construction is a great company. Very competitive pricing and superb quality work. They've built custom book shelves in my summer cabin, beautiful fireplace mantel and custom window sills and shutters. Company has capability and expertise of indoor and outdoor work, from skeleton construction to ideal finish. They also built a work of art Russian Steam Room and Sauna for me. Don't think anybody could possibly excel Yursta in skills, quality, timing and pricing. I would definitely recommend this company to anybody.
We hired MJH Construction Management to complete renovations of our recently purchased home. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, MJH determined the best solutions to a number of complex repairs and additions including floor leveling, heating, plumbing and electric. MJH helped us choose several improvements like changing the floor plan for better use of space, installing a gas fireplace as well as a bathroom and kitchen upgrade. MJH oversaw the contractors to ensure the work was completed and billed correctly. Throughout the process MJH kept us apprised of the costs and schedule - there were no surprises. We are delighted with the results - our renovated house came out fantastic.
Mr. Martin is an excellent contractor with a good attitude. I have hired him to help me finish out a high end remodel and he was very easy to work with, punctual and reliable. On top of that his work is top quality and he has a broad skill set.
Paul Herboth recently installed a large, raised deck for me in West Salem. From beginning to end, the project went quickly and smoothly. As a person who had never before had reason to hire a contractor, I felt able to trust in Mr. Herboth's honesty and expertise to ensure that the job was done right. He is intelligent, hard-working, friendly and respectful. The deck turned out beautifully in nearly no time. He used what little down time there was to do extra work, and kept my project moving forward, no matter what minor obstacles came up. The finished deck is even nicer than I had envisioned. The cost of the project stayed within the very reasonable, estimated budget. All in all, this was a very positive experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Herboth's services to anyone.
As a General Contractor, I have brought Devin on to help me with numerous projects and, regardless of the respective capacity, he has consistently been top notch. His services have ranged from highly specialized carpentry (after my 20 years in the business, Devin is one of only a hand full of carpenters I know of who can be trusted with complicated finish work) to project manager where he has worked directly with homeowners on large scale remodels and additions. Definitely one of the best in the business.
We recently used Sexton Construction for a fairly large remodel in our home and couldn't be happier with both the result and the people we were able to work with. Raymond went above and beyond what we were expecting from our contractor. He helped provide great advice along the way and the finish product turned out better than we ever imagined. We had a fairly strict budget, and Raymond did a tremendous job in keeping us below that and helping us negotiate with vendors to find best prices. Couple that with the amazing finished product and his great demeanor, and I honestly can't recommend him enough.
I had Marcos install a fire safe wall with fire door in basement area, per Daly City code requirement. He knew exactly what I wanted, had his two workers at the job site on time every day. The workers were extremely professional. It was a very satisfying experience.
I could not have been happier with Jim and his team. They installed a new wall (including installing the baseboard and crown moulding), retiled my entire bathroom (floor and shower stall), retiled my kitchen floor, and installed the backsplash in the kitchen. Also, they demo'd and prepped my kitchen countertops and then hookedup all the appliances after the countertops were put in. The ONLY reason that I didn't have Jim do the countertops as well is that I had to go with a full slab of Marble, and I had to go with someone who could do the fabrication.. Otherwise, I would have had Jim and his crew do everything. Start to finish the project was about a month, but keep in mind this is only because I changed my mind to go with a full slab midway through the project. Otherwise, it would have been about a week start to finish. All three projects turned out better than I could have hoped. There were a couple unforeseen events - typical of any construction project (ie, the change to full slab of marble, and my want to have a custom shower handle). Jim took care of everything immediately and professionally. He was completely upfront about any additional costs (since I changed my mind after the initial quote, this was not a surprise) and let me make the decision. There were no surprise bills at any point in the project which was a refreshing change from previous contractors I have used. Besides the construction skillset - Jim is a really nice guy. He's extremely honest, fair and responsive. He replied to countless emails and texts from me throughout the entire project. He showed up every day on time and worked efficiently and effectively. The same is true for the 3 guys on Jim's crew who worked on the projects. I would strongly recommend Jim and his crew to anyone wanting a quality job done by someone they can trust at a fair and honest price.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. My wife and I have hired Chris and his team on half a dozen occasions and have always been more than pleased with their work. From laying down new wood flooring, to painting, to installing new cabinets, to hiding existing ducting (we have a really old house) to replacing fencing, Chris has always finished the work on time and met our expectations. Chris always provides good suggestions ton our projects and has great attention to detail. Clean, on time, competent, I only wish every company thats for hire was like Chris and his team!
Ralph came to our home and did exactly what we needed him to do, which was some electrical work and to install a ceiling fan. He was prompt, kind, knowledgable and it didn't hurt that he was very funny!
I hired CFI Construction to frame a new 501 sq ft building on our property to be used as a sewing studio. Today, they started and finished framing the walls, and enclosing the entire building with shear panels. Next week, when the trusses arrive, they are going to install them and install roof shearing. I learned of CFI two days ago on Thumbtack. Having observed their work today, I feel like the A team just fell out of the sky into my project. They are phenomenal in every respect. Their work, honesty, and work ethic are models for the construction industry. They have years of experience framing large projects, both residential and commercial. I was humbled that they chose to work on my project. They are not solely a framing company. They can build a building from start to finish, I just happened to hire them for framing. Having enjoyed today's experience, I'm going to use them for more phases of our project. Both the owner of the company (Steve) and one of his sons (Drew) were on site the entire day, as well as their crew of 5 framers. I wanted to write this review now, even though they still have trusses to install and the front porch to frame, because I want other users of Thumbtack to have the same benefit of a 1st class, licensed, professional construction company, as I did today. I strongly recommend that you seek out CFI Construction for your projects. They are the real deal. Thank you Steve and Drew.
I hired Nick Lockwood of Lockwood Builders to paint the inside of a condo I'd purchased. We discussed what I wanted via email for a while and then met in the condo to go over paint choices. Nick brought along his paint/color specialist, a man who was of enormous help in choosing the shades of paint I wanted. Nick is a rare and special individual. As engaging as he is personally, he's even more obviously dedicated to doing an excellent job, no matter the size of the project. He and his helper were in my condo when they said they'd be, and the work was done with master craftsman-like precision. The job was finished on time despite my changing my mind about paint color a time or two. I also added a bit of wall above the stairs that hadn't been part of our original agreementand he still finished on time. Honestly, Nick went WAY beyond my expectations in terms of the quality of his work and the overall energy he brought to the job. I'm sorry I don't have anything else I can hire him to do, to be honest, and recommend him enthusiastically and without reservation to anyone who wants any work done at their home or place of business, no matter the size of the job.
I'm a concrete finisher. I'm a dynamic concrete finisher with over 25 years of experience in commercial and residential environment. I'm originally from the south which is where I first started my career. My initial training was by my uncle who was a cement finisher from the old school in the south. I have other multiple trades which I was also trained by other members of my family. My father was an carpenter, and my grandfather was a plaster. I have another uncle who was a bricklayer. Although I know these other skills and I'm successful in them, cement finishing is my first choice.
